So here's a question for all you film mavens.
I don't like Jim Jarmusch. I know his films are considered innovative, and great and what not. I've rented quite a few of them (and watched a couple in theaters) - and have been really underwhelmed.
The only exception was "Ghost Dog" which I loved.

I really want to hear why he's considered good.

A little distraction from waiting for final decisions on film school.

Personally I'm not sure how much I like Jim J bullock I mean Jarmusch but I respect the variety of his work. He seems to be motivated by the need to experiment with sroytelling rather than applying a concise style. Each film has a differant appeal and even you admit you liked Ghost Dog.
So in short I think one can like his body of work more than individual films.

But I will say watching an interview with him is truly painful. He's got a very developed arthouse artist schtick.

But then againb this is the guy who had Jack White playing with a Tesla Coil for a solid 3 minutes of screen time so he can't be all bad.

Birdman's question was "Why?"

yeah... why? Broken flowers seemed to capitalize of the Bill Murray revival but was nowhere as accurate in it's depiction of middle age questioning as Rushmore, or Lost in Translation.
Did anyone see any Andy Warhole films? -
I haven't but JJ looks a lot like him, and seems to carry himself in a similar manner.

Moved it to Film Discussions.

I haven't watched many of his movies, but after watching Dead Man I've been slightly intrigued by him. I tried to watch Stranger Than Paradise, but the disc started skipping after about 10 minutes, so I can't really discuss that. I think I probably need to watch Dead Man again to discuss it too, lol.

I couldn't stay awake during "dead man" - saw it twice. Really really tried to like it.

his "Stranger than paradise" film is probably one of the greatest examples of reality being a farce

Here I was thinking it was an example of production design being a farce.

Well Coffee and Cigarettes is beautiful especially when I am sick and tired of movies where things happen.

In the words of Charlie Kaufman "I don't want to cram in sex or guns or car chases, you know... or characters, you know, learning profound life lessons or growing or coming to like each other or overcoming obstacles to succeed in the end, you know. I mean... The book isn't like that, and life isn't like that. You know, it just isn't. And... I feel very strongly about this."

well Charlie Kaufman movies are certainly about something - although he's very tongue and cheek about it. I absolutely love anything that comes out of his pen -

Coffee and Cigarettes is a mixed bag - some of the vignettes were great - others not so much (it's been a few years since I've seen it so i don't remember specifics, except my favorite one was with the old Italian men).
