Essex County, NJ, August 11, 2003 - New Jersey based film producer Jesse Kaye will begin production on CRUEL TO BE KIND, a short film to be shot entirely with the new Panasonic AG-DVX100. The AG-DVX100 is the first prosumer handheld digital video camera to shoot in 24p. This mode shoots 24 frames per second similar to a motion picture camera. This is a true breakthrough, allowing independent filmmakers to get more of a film look out of a digital video camera.
âI am really excited to be working with this new technology,â said Jesse Kaye from his New Jersey office. âAnd I am especially excited to be working exclusively with New Jersey actors and crew. This is a no budget project -- but Iâm getting the same kind of commitment from local talent that I would on a major studio production.â
CRUEL TO BE KIND, a domestic black comedy, will be shot entirely in New Jersey with a volunteer cast and crew. Kaye, who plans to direct the project, will also be producing along with local Clifton filmmaker Brian Jude. The position of director of photography will be held by Jared Morgan, a Bloomfield based DP who has worked mainly in local news and documentary-style television.
Jesse Kaye founded NOCTURNAL VAUDEVILLE in 1999. Prior to that , Kaye was a Development Executive at Vanguard Films (Shrek). He then went on to produce films such as BALLOON FARM (Walt Disney Telefilms) and WHITEBOYZ (Fox Searchlight). Projects in development include BELLMEN by Steven Karczysnki (Balloon Farm) and CHERRY TERRY by John Kaye (Forever Lulu, Where the Buffalo Roam, American Hot Wax).
In closing Kaye says, âI hope that we ultimately succeed in creating a festival quality product, but what matters most is that everyone has a good time and perhaps walks away having learned something. Thatâs a difficult thing to say when your working with a major film studio and so much money is on the line.â
