We need one or two CG shots done with meteorites. Motion tracking involved. Big explosion needed.

Hmm I might be interested. But I don't really understand what you're exactly trying to achieve. I mean, comets and explosions? How complex could this be? How many hours would one have to put into this effort?

Its about a two second shot. (so 60 frames). The shot is shaky, quickly comes down from the sky and crashes into the ground in a giant explosion. The meteor should be on fire the whole time. So I imagine the hardest thing would be fire.

Well yeah but there are 3 things that aren't easy. If I would make a 3d scene and then use a CG camera to create some sort of shakiness, that'd be okay. If you're using liveaction footage that is shaky and I'd have to composite a meteor in it it would involve a lot of motion tracking too, which isn't too hard when a camera pans or something similar, but it is really hard when using liveaction footage that is all shaky.
Secondly the fire is hard. Its really hard to create realistic fire. The dynamics mostly work but the fire just doesn't look correct. Like in RotK, the fire on Amon Din was all CG and that just didn't look right, so it'll be tough getting that right.
And then the explosion. Creating a realistic explosion is just as hard as fire, maybe just a bit less. Also it might have to react to the enviroment, which would take a lot of time.
This is just my breakdown so you'll see that this will be really hard to do.

I know there's a particle system designed specifically for explosions there so if you textured the ground and added that effect you could make it look good enough without too much hassle.
What you're asking may not look real but is definately possible.
To acquire the shake, film it smooth, add the cgi, then zoom in about 10-15% and shake the frame in post.
Wow, goes to show how much I know! As long as it looks psuedo realistic, I can cut it up nice and quick so the audience really won't have time to analyze it. I don't like doing that, but it looks like thats what I'm gonna have to ask you to do . The explosion really doesn't have to be a lot of fire. It could mostly be a uge burst of light if that would be easier. I would send you the shot right now (like I should have done in the first place ), but I'm on someone elses computer. As soon as I can, I'll email you and funkbomb the shot (its a small file) and you can tell me whether or not the plan is achievable.

I'm sorry, but I don't think I can manage getting this shot done. I've looked into it and how it could be done, but I just don't have the time. I'm currently working on a WWII project that has somewhat expanded (in a positive way though) to quite a large production. I have began the storyboarding and I have quite a bunch of Visual FX I need to do (and others from our crew), so I don't think there's really any way getting this done. I'm really sorry. If you need some advice though, just give me a call, I'd be happy to assist you..

No worries, you gotta do what you gotta do! Thanks for looking into it though, that alone helped a lot in the learning process.

So Forsakenproductions, have you found a CG artist yet? Would like to see how it turns out. I'd like to help you but I'm kinda busy and I've reached the stage in CG where I can actually ask money for projects, because I've done a lot of non-paid projects and now I'd like to make some money out of it so I can save for some filming equipment, etc. If you're still searching for a CG artist I might be able to help you for just a small fee, it doesn't seem to be that much work.

I have two interested individuals at http://www.cgtalk.com (good site, check it out ) we'll see what they say, and if I don't have a taker you and I can continue negotiations.
