I am a Film student in England coming over to California for the summer to make a short film which is very close to my heart, a story of a flying saucer that lands in small town causing widespread panic. As it happens Id like to find some enthusiastic actors (no experience required) who are just starting out or simply need something for their showreel. Lots of experience is good, but remember there is no pay. Below I have listed each role and the kind of person or character is required.
The film will begin shooting in September. It is being shot on Super 8 or 16mm if I can. Work is for Copy/credit only. If you are interested in taking part please contact me with a photo/headshot attached. As there are quite a few parts, I am happy to see people who are interested in more than one.


The Boy / Main Character / Protagonist

Boy / Aged between 10 and 16.
Imaginative, inquisitive and excitable.
Science Fiction fan, loves to read stories, pulp magazines, watch tv shows like the twilight zone, etc.
When he becomes intrigued or fascinated by something, he keeps his mind set on it, and wants to know more. If he wants to do something, he does it. He can be impulsive but also gets frightened easily so can be a little reserved at times.


Boy's Older brother

Aged between 17 and 20.
Strong minded, popular socially but a real jerk. As the film goes on and he learns more he begins to drop his strong, popular visard and shows real heart. Early on he teases and pokes fun at his little brother, uninterested in knowing him as a person, but later on they start to bond, and his good side is bought out. Check out Josh Brolin's character in The Goonies (he plays Brandon Walsh).


Older brother's girlfriend

Aged between 17 and 20.
Pretty, Blonde. The popular girl in school, thinks a lot of herself and knows she can have any guy she wants (or in this case, the older brother). Despite all this, she is not harsh, and does little wrong.


Boys Mother

Aged between late thirties to late forties.
Welcoming, kind and encouraging although comes across as being skeptical and less than open minded. She is primarily a Housewife and a mother and feels she has the job of keeping the house "together" in all kinds of situations.


Boys Father

Aged between late thirties to late forties.
A workaholic and very much in charge over the family. Cares about the safety of everyone, is kind, but not always thinking on the same level as the youngsters.


Boy's friends

Two Boys aged 10 - 16.
Adventurous, excitable, but also good loyal friends. Supporting each other throughout the film.


Town Cop/State trooper

One of the early witnesses to a space ship landing. Almost a grown-up reflection of the young Boy. Open minded, inquisitive and has the urge to explore. He knows what he has seen and wants to prove it to the people of the town.


DJ (local radio station)

Aged between twenties and late forties.
Typical DJ, witty, fast talking, and interested in his town and the people who live there. Relaxed and cool in the way he acts and speaks, but can also become excitable with big news or situations.


Neighbour (at no. 103)

Man/Husband aged from 25 - 45.
Loving and caring of his wife. Makes a good enough living, but knows that times aren't that great. He can become easily agitated, and often gets into arguments with his wife. Tries to stay calm when he can.


Neighbours wife (at no. 103)

Women/Wife aged from 25 to 45.
Loving and caring, but to a point. Often worries and panics about situations beyond her control. She likes to be calm and things to go well, and gets angry and argumentative with her husband when they don't. Otherwise she is a kind person in everyway.


Neighbour (at no. 106)

Man/Husband aged from 30 - 50.
Strong minded, sociable but tends to think a lot of himself. Makes a good living, and enjoys life. Can become very suspiious and even prejudice against others. He acts very upper-class and thinks that people with less money or a smaller house are below him.


Neighbour's wife (at no. 106)

Women/Wife aged from 30 - 50.
Strong minded, sociable but tends to think a lot of herself. A lot like her husband. She enjoys meeting people and enjoying life, but can be nosey at times and even be a bit of a gossip. She also acts like she is of a higher class than others, but is never over the top and is still very kind and human.
