...and you probablly will continue to be unless you venture elswhee. The odds of finding actors in your area from online film making sites is slim to none. Its time to do some leg work.
Hit colleges and high schools. Host a casting call and get local radio to air an announcment about it. Contact the New Jersy film commission and ask if they have any resources you might wish to check out.
You dont justdecide to make a feature and shoot it a week later. They take alot of prep, especially when there isnt alot of money to be tossed around. Take your time. The last feature I was part of (co-writer co-director) took over 9 months of dedicated work to get into production. The one im writing now is set to be shot in April and I still may have to push back the date because i would rather waitr then go when im not ready.
Do your homework, get your ducks in a row and then have a blast making your film. Good luck. R. Michael

why does everyone assume i'm just diving into this without any preparation?
radio? wtf?
the nj film commision is worthless i checked it out...
"You dont justdecide to make a feature and shoot it a week later."
What the hell? How could anyone make such an assumption?
You're right though man, and i have been thinking about this a lot, I might start putting up fliers, but I was wondering if anyone knew like a high school thespian website.
Alright, thanks man, you guys always assume the worst in us though, i've been writing for 2 and a half years all the while trying to get cast.
I'd recommend just submitting fliers to the high schools (you can usually submit them through the counselors office or theater department). Do you have a community theater near you? If so, try posting there or post on their website. At any rate, best of luck to you.

writting has nothing to do wit it. Pre production, especially on a no budget/low budget film is a long, boring, tedious process.
NJ's film commission may be wortless, but atleast you checked.
The radio: Yes, set up a location for a casting call, contact local radio and ask them to announce when, where, and who your looking for. Great way to get a turn out. Contact local high schools and have then announce it to the students. These are all real and viable ways to get the largest amount of actors to choose from.
Not being judgmental, just realistic. Ive noticed post after post about this here, and its all pretty much the same. There arent to many actors on this site is all. We are happy to help, but there is alot of leg work on your part. I wish you the best of luck though. R. Michael
