Don't be so quick to turn down a make-up/hair person because if you are looking to send your movie to festivals, you might want your cast to look their best. Especially if he or she is just doing it for experience or credit, do not turn it down.
You must not of known that males wear make-up during a shoot. Either that or you just don't care. However, it's your decision.
Good Luck with the movie.

I second 1clue3 on this, especially if your shooting it on video. Make up can help not give actors that hard video "haggered" look. If you want that, it can also be used effectivley to bring that out. On top of that you never know when you mgith need hair and makeup on another project. If you can form that relationship now, then do so. Never turn down skilled crew. ust my two cents. R. M.
