Just wanted to give everyone a head's up that my first submitted film, Hazmat Ghost - Fury Into The Unknown is now up at:

http://www.studentfilms.com/film/get.do?id=932

I appreciate any comments, suggestions, whatever.

Here's some specifics about the production:

The film was shot on 14 rolls of Super 8 B&W 7266 Reversal on a Kinoflex and Canon camera. Pro8mm developed and Super8Cinema transferred (to DV for editing).

The film was originally planned as a 3 episode series, with 2 other directors. The other directors dropped out and I took the slack and we actually spent an entire weekend filming episodes 1 and 3, but only shot about 50% of what was needed. Plus, I was only happy with 90% of the footage anyways. The following weekend was devoted to episode 2, which is the one I was always slated to direct. We shot in the Marin Headlands in Marin County, California at the old army bunkers, and limited the amount of trees and shrubs to fit with the landscape.

All of the shots were meticulously planned via storyboards and shotlists to fit with the special effects (real life) and visual effects (CG). VFX were achieved using background plates, stock footage and digieffects film damage (to match the 7266 film stock).

Actors were auditioned and they all fit their roles perfectly with no rehearsals (I didn't feel they were required). I even played the tall Hazmat Man! Smile I barely fit in being 6'5... heh.

Hope this answers most of your questions!

You probably saw my review. I thought this was a pretty interesting project. Is this only episode 2, or did you combine all of them?

Some of the effects were kind of obvious, but the overall look held together pretty well. Digital trickery can't fake the look of actual film.

FWIW, since you were using Tri-X, you could have completed your project at greatly reduced cost compared to Pro8mm, who I believe sell all film with (overpriced) processing included. You can also get the student discount straight from Kodak...

The locations were nice.

Oh hey Evan. Yea, thanks for the review! I wish there were more. Smile

I used Kodak 7266 B/W reversal that I got from kodak with the student discount. They dont include processing and the only ones I knew of were pro8, and they totally botched the development (a line runs thru most the footage). Lame. Still works though, I mean the look is supposed to be old newsreel/war quality.

There is an episode 1 and 3, with about 30% of the footage shot. I'm totally done with it as I've moved on to other projects.

If you're interested, I have a scene edited together from the first ep here:

And the one sheet:
