Hi all,

What do you people believe are the top ten films on the site? I'd start a poll up right away, but I'd like to see what films everyone else believes is noteworthy on here. FYI trailers don't count.

It would be fun though, to do a newer list. There's been so many more movies that have come out since last year that are really good.

Very true..
I guess I'll start..

One of my favorites (without a doubt) is the new film just posted by Nick Zynda titled, "Lost Springs" . Awesome compositing, original, great music. wow.

Some people hate on Ray, but Jeff's new film "Recycled" was also well done. The chemistry between the boy and the girl played off best than any of the other films I saw on the site. The concept for the film was also pretty cool. Its been done before, but he brought something new instead of keeping the cliché title.

"Ken's New Specs" , from Nicholas Gurewitch was a mad funny animation, and was definitely a nice change from what has been on the site before... If you want a quick laugh, definitely check this one out...

If you know the name Stephen Reedy, and haven't checked out his compositing/ae masterpiece, "KFF2" DEFINITELY check it out! It is massive and is by far some of the best compositing work i've seen by kids in our age range. He also includes a commentary, which is an awesome thing for people to get inside Reedy's mind.

Those are some of my favorites that have been recently added. Be sure to check them out if you are ever bored and feel like seeing some good work.

(Wow, sorry for the long post, didn't mean to go all Ebert on you guys..haha)

I agree with you on Lost Springs, the design of the project is great!

I'm also biased but I believe that my film "Bottom Feeders" should be up somewhere on this list as well...it's also one of the few films on this site that was actually shot on film!

I have a suspicion that dr gonzo is fishing for compliments.

Don't worry. We all do it. Wink

Okay dr_gonzo...
I just watched "Bottom Feeders"---

Cool concept, funny in some parts...
I think the reason I didn't like it so much, was because it wasn't edited together well. (Just my opinion, so don't take it to heart)
It seemed like you kept cutting from a bunch of wide shots, when you should have thrown in a couple of close ups during dialogue. I also saw that in some parts where you cut to a different shot, you didn't cut on the action, so the transition was a lot more noticeable...
Also, I think acting and/or dialogue in some parts weren't that great. Maybe its just me?

In my opinion, it's not one of my favorites, but im sure other people will strongly disagree with me... Thats the beauty of cinema...there's something for everyone, and unfortunately, this film just wasn't for me.
Still a great job! Hope to see more from you here on Studentfilms.com---

Thanks for the feedback! It's good to actually hear what someone thinks other than "yeah, it was good"! Unfortunatly due to limited cast scheduling and a 6 hour lighting delay the first two days of production I had to throw out half my shot list...so lots of those close ups got axed due to that, and also not wanting to over dramatize a couple of the scenes with too many cu's...but I'll be shooting/directing my next project so I won't have to wait for a slow lighting dp!

In that case, you made great use of what you had. Anything can go wrong with a shoot, so even though you didn't get some of the shots you wanted to get, you still continued on and made the best movie you could make...

Good job man!
Keep up the good work!
Wink

Returning to the original topic:

There are quite a few recent films I have yet to view, but I'll speak on what I have seen.

The folks at Syracuse University have been making some very interesting work. Cactus and SEW were especially imaginative in all respects. I rarely see such risks taken with so interesting results in other work.

I may respond again once I catch up on the rest of the batch.

I can't even FIND my favorite films on the site anymore. I searched everywhere...

Where is the one about the kid playing on the playground then he gets shot?

Where is the one about the guy who drives around and talking about the road? the only line I can remember is "watcha lookin at jew"

The Aviator is the first one.

I remember the other on too - can't remember the title off of the top of my head - but it has been removed from the site.

Same goes with the Aviator.

The filmmaker didn't renew.
