Geez. I mean wow. Everyone is talking about Jeff Ray these days. Jeff Ray this, Jeff Ray that. Not that I'm saying it's a bad thing. He deserves it (ah, there it goes again, getting bigger).

How does it feel to be getting compliments like this from every direction Jeff?

No, I think Jeff Ray still seems pretty modest about his work, based on his message board postings. He still seems like just another aspiring filmmaker to me, and I, for one, am glad. If Jeff Ray all of a sudden bombarded the message boards with topics to the effect of "I AM THE GREATEST STUDENT FILMMAKER EVER!!!!", I would have to stay away from the site for a while out of disgust...and jealousy.

I def. think Jeff deserves the hubub he's getting. He's one filmmaker here who I really follow, and every time he makes a film, he improves on the last vastly. He's a real rising talent, and I have no doubts that he'll find further sucess when the studios catch wind of him.

'Fallen' was a cool little flick but c'mon, if that's not a NARC rip-off I don't know what is, even the openings to both films are almost blatantly the same. Don't get me wrong, he's good, but not anything monumental. 'Without Hope' and 'Inherited Conspiracies' kind of sucked. No one was preaching about him then. Without Hope had little kids pretending to be soldiers for ****'s sake. I think he needs to expand his horizons a bit as well, ie - working with an actual crew. He does everything himself, a regular Vincent Gallo. I just think whatever hoopla Ray is getting should be from 'Fallen' and not from his other work. Nevertheless, to clarify before the **** starts, I like Jeff Ray and his movie 'Fallen'.

Rubix, get over the fact that there have been similar movies out there...
I think several other people have already made that clear..

I mean, damn, if you are going to hate...then lets see some of YOUR stuff...

Stop hating, get off your ass and make your own movies. Then, we all can see what YOU'RE made of.. and see if you actually ARE good, of if you're just jealous..

yes we know. we had a big fight over it on another thread. and he gets big praise just like tom verette of TLS because art is more important than substance meaning that it is more important to have the talent before you make the most original film. any given film can be original, but only the select few have the taLENT.

I knew it, I knew it. It's impossible to have an opinion in these forums without someone getting their thong in a twist. I agreed with most of what you said before you started yelling at Hill, I think you took what he said the wrong way.

About Mahri's Revenge and Kill Bill. Only ignorant retards shouted, "OH, yeah, Kill Bill rip-off cause this came out RIGHT after Kill Bill was released" Mahri's Revenge was filmed months before it was put on this website, jeeze, and it was also screen at the San Diego Comic Con in JULY.

What amazes me is so many people on this site are quick to notice main stream films with lots of style and no subtance(and label them their well deserved), yet once a studentfilm has style but no substance, they are blinded by the style. Amazing.

This reminds me of the high praised "Knock Over" (on this website) which is a blatant rip off of so many movies its not even funny, it even goes as far as using the soundtrack from "Lock Stock and 2 SMoking Barrels" Yet read the reviews....people seem to think its the best thing.

I personally don’t get it. We have argued on these forums numerous times over films in HOLLYWOOD that were lacking in storyline or originality but entertained and impressed us. Why should it be any different with student films? Obviously there’s a higher percentage of blatant, nearly word for word rip offs which is kinda unforgiveable (I did NOT think Fallen was one of them for the record). However there is one thing that bothers me:
theres still a mentality here of people who have an opinion and are challenged to make something better. guess i better not watch the superbowl this sunday...i might need to perform better than Tom Brady...come on guys, thats childish and ****in stupid.

first of all that is highly likely seeing as i can come up with the plot/substance but dont have **** for talent. im into film for myself, not to be in competetion with anyone or films. i would compare to someone who writes a great screenplay but cant direct it. you get a good director in to improve what youve got. would i be pissed if it was ripped without my permission? **** no. im no hipocrit and everytime i download a song and put it in whatever im doing, its the same type thing.

actually i like the b and w version better because of that. would schindlers list be better in color? no it was shot that way for a reason. and whats up witht the pretty actor thing? janet leight kicks anne hecht anyday.

reading kyles post reminds me that as student filmmakers, there arent that many resources. why do u think there are so many student films w/ suicide? its probly becasue most of the actors you can find ARE students themselves. its a bit of a cliche but it works as convincing because you have the right sctor for the part.

I've come to notice that EVERY message topic ends up with people ARGUING about how one film rips another off. Then people start taking every sentence a person writes and criticisize them. I'm willing to bet that this message will be copied and pasted into another post with some attempt at sarcasm below it.

I don't understand how this topic could have spun into this. It was a simple, harmless question to Jeff Ray because I liked his movie and was just wondering what he thought about the acclaim he's been getting.
