Just wanted to mention you can watch it higher quality here instead of on the site. The compression here on sf.com came out a little harsher than I expected, and you lose a lot of the detail in the image and subtleties in the soundtrack.
Ouch. That compression is really hurting you. However, the uncompressed version looks great. For the pool scenes, did you mess with your camera's f-stops, or did you shoot on overcast days? (because it wasn't washed out at all, which is unusual for exterior summer shoots)
Is that you shirtless at the beginning?

Some days we used ND filters, others we were forced to shoot when overcast and had to CC in post.

Stringbean arms and sunken chest? Yep, me, pre-college days.
loved it hope to make one like it or better in the future was this a college project or just for fun. i'm looking to get into film any advice you could give to me i have a few scripts that i wrote up. and i'm buying a camera for starters and i'm gettin a pc to do some editing. well.. could you message me i could really use some help and i really liked your film. i wish to make something similar
Fantastic! Loved the imaginary scenes. Especially the Indiana Jones one. Was that lit only with the practical torch? It looked fantastic. The climactic scene was also really good. We suddenly go from humor to very real stakes, and it is quite effective. Well done!

Its 20 minutes long. Watch the version hosted on SF and you shouldnt have to wait at all. My internet is 600 kb/s and I still had to wait forever for the high quality version to buffer.

Wow, that was fantastic! What type of camera and microphone did you use? The lighting in the Indiana Jones scene was great. Was it just lit by the torch? Very well done! I'm glad I waited the hour for the quicktime version to load. It was worth it.

Hey, thanks for the feedback. Glad you enjoyed it. I sort of forgot about this thread, allow me to play catch-up...

Just for kicks. Actually it was closer to high school than college.

Some shots at the beginning were lit solely with the torch, but most of it had an omni sitting in the middle of the camp aimed at the actors emulating campfire, and the occasional kicker.

Um...I would venture to say he put it out before attacking three armed men...is it really an issue?

4mb/sec? I hope not! Are you referring to the compression or the actual footage? HDV mpeg is 25mbits/sec which was then taken into the Cineform intermediate codec. I compressed with Sorenson for web. The footage from the FX1 is 1080i, which became 1080p24 after conversion.

Sony FX1 with Letus35a adapter and Canon FD lenses. Mic was a Sennhesier MKH-416 P48 with a Rolls 4-channel field mixer.
Thanks everyone for the feedback. I know the story was a bit trite but we just wanted to have fun this past summer and that we did.
PS Harris I got your DVD last weekend after coming home and watched it about 10 times in a row. You're right, the majority of my favorite parts were in the first 3:30, but: The "I've got a better idea" part: brilliance.
I liked it a lot. Great acting, and the story was decent. I've been considering the Letus for a while now, and I thought you used it real well in the film.

How much did what render? You mean to export? I export it about three separate times before it gets anywhere...Cineform to uncompressed...then through CinemantiQ...takes different amounts of time each export. I never really had to render anything...

I thought it was awesome...I hope to do something like that soon...
You said this was a high school project? I feel so far behind...Did you get all the props (like the guns and the torch) locally or did you just have good sources?
What program did you edit it on?

Guns were off of ebay...the torch was just a big tree branch with a cloth around the tip.
I used Premiere Pro to edit.
XeOn, like I said I never had to render anything. Cineform is real-time editing. I can't remember any of the times for exporting if that's what you're asking. It differed depending on what I was exporting to.
I didn't hate it, but I didn't find it particularly good. The actual imagery and direction/cinematography was fantastic, but the script lacked a whole lot, and the soundtrack made it feel like a disney channel movie. It felt way too prominent for the feel I thought you were trying to capture.
