And we both share a dislike for M Night.
What really pissed me off is when people compare him to Hitchcock, those are two names that don't belong in the same sentence

Totally agree...even though I've only seen the last twenty minutes of "Psycho" and the whole "The Birds" (which I thought was cool.)

You're kidding, right? Because that's the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard. Critics suck.

The whole "plot" or "story" to the movie was original. It just went on FOREVER. I got bored with the damn "bird" dream sequence...the music to that scene got f****** annoying...It was like the type of music faeries dance to.

Anyone care to explain why there are so many student films that deal with guns and violence?

Kyle, I recommend you watch more Hitchcock.
Back on subject, there are so many, maybe in my opinion, is because they're easy to make. I don't get upset if there is violence for a reason, just random violence, unless it is a parody.

Because inside us all we want to release anger on nut-heads at our school or workplace that PISS us the F*** OFF, and the only way we can realese this anger is through video games or making movies. And guns are fun. Big Grin

I don't want to do any of that stuff...maybe it's just me. Gun are fun to watch in movies if done well(Matrix) but most times, movies over do it and then it's the same old crap.

XXX...need I say more?

Besides filming, the only other thing I ever did good was filming.

Guns are just too damn cool I guess.

It's easier to do a slacker with guns movie then it is to do a zombie movie, or some crazy drama...

Hell, I remember the good old days of just whipping out a camera and making some random movie with pulp fictionish gangsters with guns that are going somewhere for some reason to get a briefcase.

Well, it wasn't that long ago...

I luv those type of movies...rip-off or not...If people made films like this and submited to this site...I'd watch 'em...as long as each one was a little different and had a touch of originality.

There should be a contest where like four filmmmakers from this site all have a similar script...eachone directs it THEIR way...submit...see which is better. That would be pretty f****** awesome.

Yeah...someone can just pick a plot of a hat and then give like four filmmakers this plot and then the filmmmakers have to wite their own dialogue, setting, and character development...then they submit and we judge to see which one was the best...and in the end you'll have four different movies that have different styles and moods...only similarity is they have the same plot.

Think it's a good idea? Well find a couple more filmmakers willing to do it and we can try it out.

They have something similar in theatre (here in Greensboro) called the Dramatist Playground. It is sponsored by a playwrighting group I belong to (Greensboro Playwright's Forum). Four playwrights and a dozen actors will start on a Saturday morning, write four scripts, rehearse and put on four separate plays before a live audience at 7:00 p.m. that evening. I was one of the writers this past year and it is very hard work, but a lot of fun too.

There is also something similar in Atlanta for film (I forgot what it is called - a friend told me about this), but writers, directors, DPs and actors get together on a FRI - and write, rehearse, shoot, edit and premiere short films on Saturday evening. I didn't get a chance to go this year (working overtime that weekend), but really wanted to see what they came up with.

I think that concept of taking one idea and making more than one short from it (using different Directors) would be interesting also. Good idea!
