Totally agree...even though I've only seen the last twenty minutes of "Psycho" and the whole "The Birds" (which I thought was cool.) TACO WAGON PRODUCTIONS© "Violence in Movies? It's much more interresting to see a car exploding, than to see it parking" -Quentin Tarantino

quote: Anyone care to explain why there are so many student films that deal with guns and violence?
Because inside us all we want to release anger on nut-heads at our school or workplace that PISS us the F*** OFF, and the only way we can realese this anger is through video games or making movies. And guns are fun. TACO WAGON PRODUCTIONS© "Violence in Movies? It's much more interresting to see a car exploding, than to see it parking" -Quentin Tarantino

Guns are just too damn cool I guess. It's easier to do a slacker with guns movie then it is to do a zombie movie, or some crazy drama... Hell, I remember the good old days of just whipping out a camera and making some random movie with pulp fictionish gangsters with guns that are going somewhere for some reason to get a briefcase. Well, it wasn't that long ago...

I luv those type of movies...rip-off or not...If people made films like this and submited to this site...I'd watch 'em...as long as each one was a little different and had a touch of originality. There should be a contest where like four filmmmakers from this site all have a similar script...eachone directs it THEIR way...submit...see which is better. That would be pretty f****** awesome. They have something similar in theatre (here in Greensboro) called the Dramatist Playground. It is sponsored by a playwrighting group I belong to (Greensboro Playwright's Forum). Four playwrights and a dozen actors will start on a Saturday morning, write four scripts, rehearse and put on four separate plays before a live audience at 7:00 p.m. that evening. I was one of the writers this past year and it is very hard work, but a lot of fun too.
There is also something similar in Atlanta for film (I forgot what it is called - a friend told me about this), but writers, directors, DPs and actors get together on a FRI - and write, rehearse, shoot, edit and premiere short films on Saturday evening. I didn't get a chance to go this year (working overtime that weekend), but really wanted to see what they came up with.
I think that concept of taking one idea and making more than one short from it (using different Directors) would be interesting also. Good idea!
