Everybody agrees with me when I say that Snatch and Lock Stock both have AMAZING soundtracks... Right? Of course. So stop getting mad at people for using Snatch and Lock Stock music in their student films. Putting music from these soundtracks in a film does not make the movie a rip-off. In my opinion it helps it. If you don't like the fact that people who are using other songs to score their movies have good taste, then go eat your *sshole.

Now I will agree that if you make a film that rips off of Snatch and/or Lock Stock AND put the music in it, then it gets a little overdone. Even so, there aren't many films I've seen on this site that I would call a "Snatch/Lock Stock ripoff". People really tend to throw that phrase around alot on this site even when its not true. Just because a movie has a gun in it, or someone says something funny, or a soundtrack song is on a student film DOESN'T make it a ripoff. Stop getting mad at people for having good taste for God's sake!

I'm not going to lie. The main reason I'm making this post is because a film that I'm about to send in has a song from Lock Stock in it ("18 With a Bullet" for those that care). But this film is in NO way whatsoever a ripoff. Nothing even alludes to the movies aside from the fact that the characters own guns and say funny things. People need to realize that a rip-off is and what a rip-off isn't before they start throwing that phrase around like nobody's business.

There's my two cents.

Yeah, but when they use entire movie soundtracks I have to ask if that's the only way they can express themselves.

It's not hard to find other good music. I mean, there are loads of good songs out there, you gotta look, don't get lazy and just take songs that were collected for Snatch and Lock Stock..

I'm sorry, but when I hear music that has allready been used in the film...it just gets irritating. How many times have we heard, "Let's Get it On" used in a film during a sex/make-out scene?! Eek

Yes, we've heard it so many times now that it's becoming used as a joke, which is a good thing. I always laugh when i hear that, because it is quite funny.

Yeah, Snatch ruled. Lock Stock was boring, but the end is genius.

One thing I am not short of when it comes to working on films is the huge amount of music I have access to. I am friends with almost every artist in my area. My advice is, like a song from snatch? Talk to your local artists and see what kind of genre there into etc and see what they can pull off. It is sooo much better to have great sounding ORIGINAL music in a film. People have to learn that music is a huge part of film. When you get into entering film festivals you will be sad to find out that you can't use the soundtrack from Snatch.
Plus sometimes creating your own music or getting the help of a muscian can be the most inspiring thing in your own film. Don't be lazy go explore that aspect.. RIGHT NOW!!!!!

If the film festival is just for fun, (as in no competition amoung other films to find the best film) then it doesn't matter. If you want to try & win awards then you must copyright the music or get someone to compose a score for you.

Ya, if its like a small school festival or something with meaningless prizes, mostof the time they wont care. But REAL festivals, those need you original music.

Its funny you bring that up, Irony, as I do play guitar and my teacher happens to have a studio (he runs instant klazzix - www.instantklazzix.com), so i have so far recorded two songs. a full 2 minute song for credits, and a theme for an upcoming film. it is quite rewarding.

For those of you that don't have access to local music, most of which I find is not worthy of putting in film anyway, I'd recommend either Acid 3.0 or 4.0 if you can afford it. It's really simple and it doesn't take too much time or money to create something that sounds good. Or you can also surf Acid's artist page (www.acidplanet.com) and ask if you can use any of their music. There's TONS of good stuff there. (If you go there look me up!) Smile

I don't find any of the music THAT memorable...it's not like I went out and bought the soundtrack.

Any film on the website that deals with an average joe having to pay a debt to a crimeboss because he lost in a card game. I'd call that a 'Smoking Barrels' rip-off.
