Thank you very much for what you said.

About the slow motion thing, i hear ya, its kinda more matrixy, but we wanted to have a shot that would make other film students wonder how we did it.

The premiere was great, a few technical difficulties but it worked out. We will be sending off a copy in 2 weeks or so once i get back from my road trip. Later guys.

i'm sorry i'm not much of a speller. instead of studying for my spelling tests i was out playing with a movie camera.

So JESSE. When you say "keyed out" the background, you frame by frame made it green screen and then replaced it with a new background?

Hey Jesse

Dude Im in High school 2 and Im about to do a 2 hour movie and I tell you what, I cant stand it when people dont realize that we high schoolers and we don't have expert actors like these college guys, we have to use what friends we got and if they can act well good. But what me and my friends are doing is we all got jobs to help pay for this movie which will be about 2,000 dollars or more but you know what its still low budget and you know what if you can make a bad ass movie with a low budget then it just proves you got talnet. And another thing we don't just have ****ing composers in high school so i know what your going through and you know what this is the thing to think about, put the ****ers in your speech 10 to 20 years from now when you get a academy award.
Good luck with future projects
if you want to watch one of my movies its

Hey guyusm just got back from my road trip to Canada. Nice place...nice girls.

ANYWAY

To vatolocoman: When i say i keyed out the background, what i mean is i took the Video Filter called Blue and Green Screen, and i put it on blue. Since the sky was blue, it became transparent. thus i could add in a CGI background. I call it Sky-keying.

To Xpedition: I hear you. Everybody in my film is a good friend of mine. Some characters were only added in after some of my friends asked to be in the film. At this level, as long as the movie is still great cinematically, and everybody had fun making it, then the acting doesn't really matter much. No matter what my directing abilities are, i cannot turn a High School Sophmore into the evil witch of the world. But we tried, and it is up to the audience to chose to believe it, or to criticize. The whole composing thing, I have found two people who want to compose for the movie, or do some part of it. So they are out there, i just found them too late.

Thanks for posting, any more comments on either the trailer or the demo, feel free to ask me.

Dude, and this means precisely... what? That you can steal copyrighted music from professional productions, and that hiring terrible student "actors" is acceptable?

The bottom line is that excuses don't compensate for a lack of creativity or motivation. Score your own work, or find someone who will do it for you. Better acting and original music would greatly improve the films on this site - only a few filmmakers actually created the music that appears in their film.

I don't even feel like touching the acting topic. Just because you are in high school or your friends are bad actors doesn't mean no one should criticise you for it. Bad acting is bad acting, regardless of age. If the bad actor in question is a 15 year old in a role that is written for a man, then that only makes it less credible.

Personally, i believe the acting is very good. And how can you tell from a trailer? You will see the actors shine in the full length feature. That is if you are willing to accept that they may look younger than most professional movies.

As far as scoring goes. I completely understand what you are saying. I started my film career editing rollerblading videos for professionals. It was common to just rip your music from professional artists. So i came into this site, saw that people did that here too, and thought that it was accepted. I was mistaken. I think people are all mad about that i took the Passion music. If i had picked music from a composer nobody knew, yet a professional, then i would bet that nobody would say a damn thing about it.

A: This is a trailer. The first LOTR trailer used music from gladiator. So PA-LEASE.

B: In the full length film, see if you can identify the composer. He is someone that no-one has ever heard of. You happy?

I don't like "C"'s, got to many of them in school.

D: I am handing the film over to Thomas Varette to rescore the whole thing for a different cut. Bert Meuller is also writing music for a trailer.

---Ok, so this is the deal. I am reluctant to put up the full length film because i believe that by putting up a full length film, the slightest error made in filming is going to be enough to bring the whole thing down. People are looking for a reason to tear a highschool made full length feature epic fantasy film apart. Whether it is because they are jelouse, or because they can't believe it i don't know. I will probably release the first half of the film, see how it is accepted, then release the second if the demand is high enough.

We'll see. It is all done, 72 minutes of pure awesome.

I was very lucky to land upon the trailer for "The Age of the Ruash". I was recommended it by a friend...and now I'm really glad I was able to watch it. Both trailers, the demo and the one for the full-length film, were amazing. I am also a high school filmmaker and I know some of the difficulties. You don't have much choice as far as casting...pretty much anybody who is willing to work with you. You don't have much money...if any. The majority of the fabric and equipment I have is donated or borrowed. With my story, fortunately enough, I was able to tie in the fact that everybody is a teenager. But I really applaud Jesse and his amazing trailers and efforts. It has been an inspiration to see what he's done. It's inspired me to really get going on my films this summer. Great work! I can't wait to see the full-length film!
Oh, and I also applaud all of the cast and crew. I know that my producers have a lot to do, and it isn't easy. The cast also has to sacrifice a lot of time and effort. Congratulations to everyone who has worked on "The Age of the Ruash".

"If i had picked music from a composer nobody knew, yet a professional, then i would bet that nobody would say a damn thing about it."

Just because no one recognizes that plagiarism doesn't mean it's OK. It's really pretty simple - don't steal music from other films. I take pride in creating everything myself. Ripping music from the Passion, Road to Perdition, or any other professional production shows a lack of morality.

Hollywood trailers frequently use music from other films, but that's only because the actual soundtrack is still under production. Oftentimes the rough cut of the movie will have music roughed in from other films, but you'll never see a professional production using unlicensed music from another motion picture. It doesn't work that way.

You are very right. I understand completely what you are saying. When i made the trailer i didn't know of any student composers. I don't know if you can say that it was a lack of creativity or originality. Anyway i hope you all forgive me for using music that everybody knew. If you look at more then the music, i hope you see that the film is original and that the cinematography is beautiful. You might or you might not.

Any comments not regarding the music choice?

Jeez, I am really looking forward to seeing this trailer now after reading this topic. I don't really give a rat's ass about the musical choice or the age of the actors.

Ok, I've decided to post the film, but i am gonna wait on doing so because of two things. Bert has written a song that I am going to try to incorporate into the film. Also, Thomas Verrette is going to be rescoring the whole thing. I got to much **** about the music for me to ignore it.

Thanks to everyone who yelled at me about music choice, i guess i won't do that again.

See everybody later.

Man! You really love your project! Have you shown to anyone Big Cheese, yet. I bet you could get some recognition.

I hope Big Cheese isn't a film term for anything, or else i'm getting behind on my lingo. If you mean big cheese like anyone high up in the industry or anything, i haven't been able to get it into abt highschool film festivals because it is 71 minutes long, and they don't except them that long. And i'm sure i'd get crushed in any other film festival.

But hey guys, i still know what a C47 is.

WAIT! I think i discovered why its called that...perhaps...check it...what if they called a clothes pin a C47 because in WW2, the airborne were flown in C47's to be dropped. They were also refered to as "sticks." could a clothespin be a stick? I don't know...

After some research, i found out i was wrong. C-47 productions says "The origin of the term "C-47", meaning clothespin, (or if you're on the east coast, "CP-47") is said to have come from the rental company, Mole Richardson. C47 was the designation for the bin where the clothespins were stored."

Back to age of the ruash, once I get the mix from Tom, i'll be popping it in and sending it off to studentfilms.com.
