I totally agree. when I hear a music selection I recognize....I usually stop all train of thought and focus on the song I'm hearing while thinking to myself, "where have I heared this song????" And It usually takes me a long time to remember where I heard it. Same thing with these 3 movies with the Signs theme in them, as the song started I started thinking,"Where have I heard this theme?" Then the more "memorable" part of the song picks up and I go, "Oh...Signs.......again." It distracts me, the audience.

Jesus...I gotta go to bed. I've been watching Evil Dead all night...gonna watch Dead Alive tommorow. Smile

Everything Jay said, I agree with. I especially liked the part about asking yourself those questions. You've expanded my horizon, Jay888.

Imperial, I just started to understand your movie. When you explained it, I knew what was going on. I liked your film, but I thought the music was too big for it, and I had trouble hearing the dialog. But next time, if you want to make a movie, make it because you want to inspire somebody or evoke thought. Don't do it to "stump" your friend.

I didnt mean to be opposing in my posts. I just defended myself because this is one of my only films that had music from other movies. Stolen if you will. All of my other films have music that I composed and orchestrated myself. I didn't have time on this one to do that because it was for school. That's all I am saying.

I know how an original score works. I defenity gives the film something of its own. I do it for as many of my own films as I can and lately I have been composing the music for Chandler Mays's films as well. I know the importance of an original score. I deal with it with every one of my films. To be honest with you, doing the ORIGINAL score is probably one of the most fun and satisfying parts of the filmmaking process. At least for me.

The Lost Soldiers has an original score in it, so whenever that gets on this site, I would like you all to critique it and the score since everyone is so ademant about an original score. That would be more helpful cause I know The Black Box needs an orginal score. But it's too late now. So check that out whenever it gets on here. It was supposed to be on this weekend......

Imperial Picture once said in another post that the score for "EXECUTION" was made AFTER Chandler submitted it. But yeah Imperial said he did a score for that movie.

Imperial- Glad to hear that! Yes, I remember you saying that it was a last minute decision to use this music, and that's fine. More so, I'm just trying to show "in general terms" (meaning: to others as well as you) how using "ONLY" this music can hurt your knowledge of "what a film is" in the long run, and why. If this is the only film you've done using temp cues you have nothing to worry about. BTW- I use the word "stolen" to emphasize the implications of using this music in the future (when it matters). I'm really getting at "the big picture", not just what you all are doing today......

Pyro- Glad to hear you are thinking in a new way. That's great!

Jay..all you have just said has discouraged me to a point of no return. I have realized I can't make films and since I can't do that how the hell am I supposed to get a score for it? that's it for me...I'll just go out and fullfill my second highest hope in life, which is to work at a bookstore. I'll probably live with my parent's until I'm thirty years old, I'll never have a job never have sex, and never have a car. And oh yeah, my dream of being a super hollywood director and have millions to feed the poor? Good-bye. Thanx Jay, I hold you responsible. Maybe I should just kill myself.

Yeah that was me who did the original score for Execution. I posted that a while ago I think. It sucks that I did that and its not on the version on the site but oh well. I was alot of fun to do. If anyone wants to hear any of the music from EXECUTION or THE LOST SOLDIERS email me.

Kyle what are you talking about? What did he say man.

Oh yeah, for the Black Box, i actually edited the music to the movie. There are parts that fade in and out to my liking to go along with my editing. So as for editing to the music like a music video I definetly didnt do that. I edited the whole film first and then added music. Just some info.

Kyle thanks for the update

Who the hell is fragile mann? Because he wrote a review for The Black Box and says that "when the wife goes into the bedroom to get his wallet..."

That makes no sense. That is not displayed in the film at all. There is nothing about a wallet or money for that matter in the whole movie. So where did you get this from?

As for the screenplay, it was going to go backwards from the beginning but when we conceived of the idea that never came up. We didn't think of it going backwards until the screenplay was halfway through. I honestly don't think the movie would be that much different if it went forwards because it would still end with a conclusion regardless. We did it that way because I wanted to strech my skills as a director further for my first experimental film and making it go backwards makes doing the movie all the more difficult.

Oh yeah, thanks all you guys for posting reviews!

I think reviews like that are hillarious. I want those type of reviews when I submit my film.

Jesus Christ...I just realized...I'm wearing a baseball cap. I never wear baseball caps. Whoa this is off topic.

But this isn't:

Yeah...music on this website should either have never been used in an actual "FEATURE FILM" or be an original score.

IS any body else tired of hearing the song, "LEt's Get it ON" for every sex scene in a film? IT's like the biggest cliche ever...

Almost a bigger cliche than taking a picture of a sleeping animal with "funny" props around it...

Eek

I am a composer working in the Midwest and I do films for fun (till I get paid, anyway). If you're looking for a composer, you'll find many here at the site who may be in your neighborhood whom you should try first, but if you're looking AND you don't mind working at a distance (i.e., sending me video or a digital version of your film via email) I do get the job done. I've even won a Telly (sort of-- the award was "Excellence in the Use of Music", whatever that means) and a videographers' award for "Excellence in Original Music" for a recent project.
