I'll tell you what else is causing me nausea and vomiting, though...the reviews that are so uppity and "5 STARS ALL AROUND WOW GREAT FANTASTIC ABSOLUTELY FLAWLESS"-like. Like this one:

"There's not enough numbers to rate this!! As good as anything on television...better than most! Thanks for sharing it!"

As positive as it is...can't there be *some* effort put into it to eek out *one* thing that wasn't *perfect*?

I agree and disagree. I agree that reviews might be "bashed" and rudely reviewed.. I see two sides to this: some people might just be sick of seeing many films that are in fact a waste of time, seeing films where you see the flaws, see the bad acting, etc.. But, a review should be helpful so the film maker understands what he/she has to work on. I myself have bashed a film or two, and for example one was the films that had about 20 episodes of the same thing over and over of pictures, with no voice over narrorating, just text, text and more text. I know I bashed it but many people also got sick of seeing the film(not to be rude). Also other people thought that it was unfair because 2 films from the same person was posted at the same time, week after week, so there film could not be posted till the following week.. In conclusion, I think this post is a bunch of drama, but it does have a point.

And the point is: When you bash a film, give some helpful tips and a good review so the person(s) know what they have to work on!

No, bashing reviews will not be tolerated no matter how annoying the film was.

Critical and negative reviews are different from bashing reviews. Here's a hypothetical example that should give you an idea of the difference:

Negative review:
"Your composition seemed off to me; many of the shots felt awkward and poorly lit. It was unclear what the actors were saying in the bridge scene."

Bashing review:
"OMG! That sucked so much. My advize to you is to nevrr pick up a cmara again, cause my toilet can make better movis then thatt,,,lolzz"

So the gist of this thread is: a kid is unhappy because his mediocre film garnered less-than-stellar reviews.

Give me a break. No one cares how much work went into your project. Nearly everyone here has made something and is familiar with the amount of time it takes. Whether your project is good or not is completely separate from what you think people should write about it.

FWIW, the reviews with all 5 stars that are obviously written by cast, crew, or friends are equally annoying and should be removed.

As a matter of fact, it might be good to program the review pages so a score of all 5s can't be entered. I certainly haven't seen many films in my lifetime that would merit a perfect score.

For the same reason comics don't laugh at their own jokes or the jokes of lesser standup personalities, people who don't normally make films are easily impressed and will quickly merit a film with all 5 stars because they can't imagine doing it any better. But look at the overall ratings of the movies; not one has all five stars. The best reviewed film on here has like 4 1/2.

It's like Ebert and Roeper: while they always have some gripes about a movie, they give some two thumbs "way up" anyway.

I might be way out of line here but I think this is the most unintentionally hilarious thread I've read in a few weeks. I love reading unconstructive reviews, if not for what the viewer had to say but for how they said it.

"LoLZERSKATES THIS FILM WAS POOPY OKAY ONE STAR LOLLERSZERKATEKRAUT!!!1"

How can you not laugh at something like this?!?

Sometimes very true, and I've seen that plenty of times, but the non-filmmaking crowd can also give especially low reviews because often they simply don't know what they're rating. I hope this doesn't make me sound pompous (even though just about everything I say does). I like non-filmmakers; I talked to one once.

Second that. I also love looking at my beautiful face in the mirror. Strangely enough, I sometimes find myself giving more respect to the kind of reviewer who writes words such as "poopy" and "lolzerskates" in his review.

Here's my favorite line from a review of one of my movies:
quote:
But good first try

How perfectly reassuring. He gave the worst review yet, but I guess he didn't want to hurt my feelings. I just hope he doesn't find out about the 40 other shorts I made before this one; I'll look like such a fool!
