I'm working (as of now) on films that aren't sold or mass distributed in any way, but for some reason this tiny little film festival needs permission for music I use.

Yes, I know a composer is a logical thing, and I have one (although he says he's busy a lot) but some songs are just perfect.

I've tried to send letters and call people at companies.
All I've gotten is unacquired responses and lame-ass people telling me I'll have to pay $1500 for a "processing fee."

I wanted to know if anybody with experience from music permissions had any advice/comments.

THANKS!!

I don't know what kind of music you're trying to get, but I've had success with local and regional musicans. You just need to start asking people. Two musicians even wrote songs for the film. These are good, recorded in a studio, songs. This may not work as great if you're looking for a film score, but you never know--and it can't hurt to ask. This is all part of being a micro-budget film producer. On that note, a word of advice: stay in constant contact with your musicians. Musicans can be more flaky than actors. Big Grin
