my first movie was first put up on student films in like late june...early july. i was considering posting a topic here about it but its really just my first film and not very impressive. I made this almost exactly a year ago and since have learned a helluva lot (ill be posting a document about using Muzzleflashes and sound FX in shootouts in a few days when im done). My next project is a mockumentary of a doomed indie film so it barely resembles anything seen here in this film, but if anyone has any criticism before i start another project (aside from the storyline, im well aware it was merely a vehicle to do multiple styles of different films in one project Wink), go ahead.
and on a random note, i just purchased a wonderful Sennheiser M66 shotgun mic from B and H. If you want a fantastic mic in the 500 range i highyl recommend it.

Umm yea

Isnt your mockumentary of an indie film gone horribly wrong a hell of a lot similar to your other film. "A movie about making a movie", basically the same. My only suggestion is think of something a little more original. You have to rack your brain to come up with something 100% new, just dont make a movie about making a movie. There is a film festival at my school in a few weeks. Im working on a script that is fairly an idea of my own, while all the really really really amateur filmmakers at my school are all doing "oh hey, lets make a movie about some guys making a movie." I guess anyone that uses mom and dads DVcam w/ their microsoft movie magic program thinks that their a "filmmaker".

For the love of god do something more original. I thought the untitles was good, and you can make something much much better than, "a movie about makign a movie". I really believe you can (or atleast surely hope you can).

i really wish i could go into more detail about the mockumentary, i shouldnt have phrased it like i did. its not a "heres filmmakers making a movie", in fact theres only one scene on the set of the film. its hard to explain
and i know exactly what you mean, when i think of a better way to summarize the film ill get back to ya, or hell, put it
on here. but i dont think that doing a movie about making a movie is completely devoid of imaginatiion, look at Adaptation or Living in Oblivion. Its all about execution. and for the record, if theres one, ive done several "real" films since the untitleds, wiht actual plotlines and the lot.
and you're also right, its hard as student filmmakers to find something completely original with our resources.

Oh, boy. Hehehehe. I've been in that guy's position a few times.
Something I suggest working on is to find a way to cut down on cursing.
Trust me, you'll find that you're movies will be much more popular in the future if you have no cuss freaks and curse all the time freaks liking your movie. If you target either group that's all you'll get. But if you increase your range more people will like your movie.
That's my two cents.

"I never understood why the director is glorified so much over the others. the director wouldn't be anywhere if they didn't have any one to boss around!"

Well this won't help anyone with anything but reading your post made me remember a few years back in my first video editing class how two of my classmates were planning to make documentaries about each other making documentaries on each others doucumentary. They were going to call it paradox; but they evaporated into some sort of cosmic blackhole opened up by the treatment they wrote for the project. I'll miss those guys. Anyway best of luck on the vapid choice of mockumentary filmaking.

hell i would say make whatever u want. even if it is very closely related to your other woork or cliche ****. keep working at it and maybe something original will come later. i mean who said a film needs an original plotline to make a successful film. look at QT's Resevoir Dogs and Pulp Fiction. Rather cliche for a film that is so innovatiive (by reputation).
