We should be the last people you should be asking about any project. I mean honestly, what do we know about you? Make it for yourself first and foremost.

While I agree mostly with HDK, I think you have the right to know the reception of your audience to your idea. Personally what makes all the difference is the production value--how well you make it basically. How much detail you carve into it--if you're going to set up a camera and take the shades off a few lamps for lighting in your family room and film something there--forget it. Don't even bother. Sin City used greenscreen compositing almost 100% of the time and I doubt you'll achieve a similar look. About the only thing you can really duplicate (technically-wise) is the color isolation. I really don't think students have the capability to do the Sin City theme justice--but try it anyway. It really doesn't matter what we like; it's all about personal satisfaction. Just be aware that if the general public finds your work to be awful and you think it's a work of art, you're not going to make it in Hollywood, to say it bluntly. Good directors know what people want to see.
