Hey all. Alot of you guys know me and I'm so proud of everyone here for making this site such a vibrant community. I signed up two years ago, and have been quite active in the site, but never gained the courage to actually submit my own work; until now. My new film, "Plato's Cave" is based off of the historical philosopher, Plato's "Allegory of the Cave". His story is about men living in a cave, unable to expeirence reality. My movie portrays Plato's movie, but also relates it to present day.
its a metaphor (or allegory in this case) of society in general. if ur confuesed, watch the movie and it should bring alot of light on the subject. also, i supported a link to the actual story to give more info. This is the movie i submitted to all my colleges as my portfolio. some find it slow, but tried to stay true to the mood of story. its basically a visual representation of the narration.
An allegory about today's media here in the U.S., and how we have the opportunity to break away from its control. I went through this very "liberation" myself, when I first heard Noam Chomsky speak. He talked of the supposed liberal media in the U.S. still being under the control of large corporations. I could hardly believe my ears...the liberal media, to whose views I subscribed, wasn't liberal enough?! But I went out looking for answers, and found them in online newspapers from around the world on the internet. Indeed, things are not as they seem...the U.S. media has most of the country chained like slaves to their views.

the U.S. media has most of the country chained like slaves to their views.
And getting your information from equally propagandist foreign (liberal) media is somehow exhibiting independent thought? Grow up. Chomsky is an idiot with zero credibility.
Chomsky is one of the sages of our time...as Plato was to the ancients, so is Chomsky to the present day. His website is at -- http://www.chomsky.info/

What the hell?!!! You kids and your moronic delusions of intellectualism. Do you really think that Plato had mass media in mind when he wrote this. Of course not. How presumptuous of me! You think that you can apply any shallow-minded assumption about the 21st century that you form in that underdeveloped little brain of yours to B.C. philosophy that is translated. You're not really analyzing his work. You are applying preconceived notions about the world to whatever you see. The rest of your reviewers are too stupid to get that. Hell, I bet half of them can't even define symbolism, yet alone understand it. I'm sure that you found some dumbass professor somewhere who thinks the exact thing that you do, and I'm sure your high school English teacher gave you an A and a pat on the back. They share your intellectual capacity. Other than that, Cinematography was alright. It was obvious you were in a studio (or garage) for the cave scene. The acting sucked. All they had to do was stand still. They couldn't. That's terrible. The script wasn't great. The fact that the whole basis of the short revolved around a weak analogy destroys any credibility that the piece might have had. The sound sucked. The flashes of media images toward the end contradicts the whole message of the piece. The guy in the theater realizes that he has been blinded, so he sees the same images were used to blind him, and they lead him to an epiphany. That's such bull****. You meant to show how the world is a ****ty place and the media trys to cover it up. I know you assembled stock footage for that section, and I know that it came from the same sources you are criticizing, plus you set the film in a movie theater. If you think that Hollywood is limiting our view of the world through the use of impossible fictional situations, you're hopeless. You are an aspiring director and you are criticizing film as a medium? Stick to making the same trite bull**** that everyone else in high school makes. It probably won't be over your head. Maybe when you're potty trained you'll be able to make a film. With Love, Reed

you missed the complete message i was giving. dont base my intensions of the film based on what people have to review about it. it had NOTHING to do with teh media. it was symbolic of the scary things in the world, and what we have to overcome to see the beauty of the world. just because i took news footage doesnt mean it was a direct relationship. where the hell else am i supposed to get footage of 9/11, or anything else of that matter. u missed the message completely.

another thing is. im sorry if i have to correct this review. i mean, i can take poor critism, but i feel i have to defend myself.
also, if u felt that it was about modern media, but still enjoyed it, i appreichiate it, but i just wanted everyone to know its true intent, or atleast what my vision was.
