Alright heres the deal.... I wanted to get a boom mic for my XL-1 so I decided to go with the Azden SGM-2X. Of course, since the XL-1 doesn't have XLR I also had to buy an adapter. I got the BeachTek adaptor thats supposed to work with the XL-1 but when I rig it all together I get no sound from the mic. Since I have invested a lot of my own money in this.....it is very frustrating. If anyone has a similar set up or knows what I might be doing wrong please help!!!!!!!

Magnus: I have the Azden shotgun mic that is step below the one you have - takes the battery, but has the 1/8" plug.

I have a GL1. When I shot my short last year, I used a friend's Sennheiser and Beachtek adapter and it worked beautifully. XLR mic into Beachtek (mic slot #2, not #1 for some reason); Beachtek into GL1, turn it on, adjust volume and it worked.

Sorry, that's not much help, I know. It's kind of hard to assist without actually being there! So the only thing I can think of is to make sure your Beachtek is on, maybe plug the mic into the other mic slot, and adjust the volume on the Beachtek.

Good luck.

After calling all the companys today I learned a valuable lesson that I'd like to pass on to ya'll:

Canon XL-1 + Beachtek adaptor + Azden SMG-2x = unhappy combination and no audio signal!

apparently Beachtek highly recommends that their costumers use Sennheiser mics, which are a lot more expensive.....so if any of you are thinking of getting an XLR adaptor for an XL-1 go with Canons MA-100 or 200

I highly don't recoment the cannon xlr adapters. I'm not fully sure what the problem may be with the beachtek setup that your useing--my first thought would be a bad ground--but the cannon xlrs adapters greatly increase the s/n ratio. But on the good side, they don't take up a lot of space at your local land fill.

Also, you may be the one in a hundred that gets bad equiptment. Try using a different mic. Then try using a different xlr adapter (maybe a friend has one). Then try using a different cable. then different camera. Use process of elimination to figure out where the problem really is. Then call the company up and scream at them. It makes you feel better.

good luck. let us know if you figure it out. don't but the cannon adapters if you can help it.
