does anyone know of a website i can look at that describes lighting techniques? for me, lighting is a major part of a film and i really need to learn how to do it correctly.

check out the guide book for guerilla filmmakers
if you scroll down the front page there's a flash tutorial on basic cine lighting. there's also stuff about lighting in the production section of the website. hope that helped.


I don't set out to make "art" I just try to make something with a beginning, middle, end, and some characters...the art seems to come during the process.

Check Joren's site out also, he has some great lighting tips. Joren's lightting

The three books linked at the end of this article is what you should get. The article does an alright job at explaining white lighting is for people that probably aren't ever going to care about doing it, but it's too simple for actual lighting. Read the books instead.

And his advice about putting in as many lights as you can in a room is a very terrible advice if you don't know anything about how many Watts you are pulling from the circuit. You could blow a circuit, or even worse, melt a fuse, or start a fire(depending on the wiring of the house).
