I was wondering how I could make a good chainsaw dismemberment scene. I'v heard of several different methods such as dressing a water melon in a shirt then sawing away...but what if I want blood to splatter evewrywhere? Do I just put a bag of blood on the object I'm cutting...so when I cut some blood with come out? I was thinking about a scene where an arm is chopped off by a chainsaw...I was thinking of maybe just dressing a tree branch in a shirt sleeve then cutting into that while on a tight CU. Does anybody have an type of experiecne, ideas, or websites that could help?

...well since no one had any ideas or thoughts to respond with...I guess I could always spare a little kid or two. Looks like I'll just make it look authentic by actually cutting them up with the chainsaw.

YAY! now you got the idea! It's always better to improvise with what you have, if you can't think of a good way to make "special effects". Little kids are dumb anyway. but anyway.....................
how about dressing a ham in clothes and choppin'er up. I think that log one is good though. Tape bags full of fake blood to the log, then dress it. then cut it, and it'll spray like mad.

You could not show the actual cuting but show splirting of blood onto the attacker

Yeah, we already tried the CAMERA LOOKING UP AT THE KILLER WHILE SOMEONS OFF SCREEN SQUIRTS BLOOD AT THEM. It looked decent but I want to keep experimenting...I'm gonna try the ham idea...it's just hard because it's fuc king expensive to buy meat...even small pieces for like three bucks and I'm only gonna see it on screen for like five seconds. I'm just gonna experiment around with shi t.

Ok kyle, My thoughts are kinda all over the place but i'll try and put it into some sense, here is what we did for Mr. Jakornikov (you'll know the scene i'm talking about when its on the site)

This will require the killer to knock the person on their back fisrt...

You need:

Meat
Cardboard box
Ground
Shovel
a freind
a shirt (something dark and non-translucent)
water ballons
fake blood
plastic bag
inch thick peice of wood

step 1:
cut out a frame in the box, use the peice you cut out to support the back, secure the peice of meat to the box, put the shirt over it, water ballons filled with blood postioned in the right spots (this you are going to have to use your own judgement on)

step 2:
next dig a hole in the gourd, have a freind lay in the hole with his legs out and his head out as if only his midsection was in the ground. Place the peice of wood on his chest (so if you hit it you know to stop) place the fake chest over it. After a few minutes of digging and postioning it should look like a full person

step 3: hack away

2 Feet, then we filled it in while we were postioning.

Its easyier to fill a the hole 10 times then to dig it out twice.

If you want to squirt blood out the best thing to do is find a pump, like a water pump but instead put the fake blood in place of it that way you can run the tube to where you want the blood to squirt out and then have someone outside the picture to press the pump in and out to squirt the blood out, this is also a good method to use when doing bullet shots. Now fake legs and arms are always a good way to go when cutting off parts but you can also have one part with the chainsaw looking like its about to chop off a arm then show another camera view of the person with the chainsaw and cutting th arm and have some blood fly into the picture. Once you have done that you can show the person with the arm missing and blood squirting everywhere.
