I'm going to be getting a shotgun mic pretty soon and I was wondering what the best way would be to mic it to a GL1. Since there is only Mini-In I need some sort of adapter. They sell XLR to Mini cords but I've heard they're not that good, is this true. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I was looking for a link for an XLR adapter from another board - and the board wouldn't come up (Page Cannot Be Displayed).

However, I did find this link:

http://www.signvideo.com/xlr-pro_xlr_adapter-audio-mixer.htm#xlr_back

For XLR adapters - one is a two channel ($149) and the other is a one channel ($99). I was so excited about the price, I bought the one channel adapter for my GL1!

It's the best price I've seen. Now, I just hope it works for me!

Good luck. Hope it helps.

yeah, they tend to not be as good as a studio one or beachtek adapters. they degrade the s/n ratio compared to the other adapters. They also don't alow you to adjust levels. If at all posible, go for a real adapter. Still, an inline adapter is better than nothing.

I use a beachtek DXA-6 adapter with my gl-1 which has two channels, an adjustable grounding switch, and phantom power on one of the channels. It's cost was 300. Well worth it IMHO.

I have a Gl1 and an $18.00 simple adapter from equipment emporium. You don't need a special adapter because Canon cams don't have problems with stray voltage. All the $150 models do is give you gain control but it's not very effective since you simply can't over-ride the auto-gain. It'll have little difference than changing the gain in post, so why spend the extra money? My SGM-X1 works freakin' awesome with the simple adapter.

That's just my two cents.

yeah, if it works for you, go for it. The inline adapters I've used definately degrade s/n ratio. Maybe the one I used wasn't properly balanced.

It's an adapter, you have to buy the XLR cable seperately. Great thing about XLR is you can run it 10 feet or 1000 feet and there's no feedback or interference.
