Hey everyone,

I do not like my camera anymore. I was looking on ebay and I saw a GL1 for $700-1000. I was amazed, but it is probabaly because they are getting old. But I don't care because GL1s rock. Any ways, I wanted to know if a GL1 is really worth saving up for. Thanks.

Well, i use one regularly - its a good cam, no doubt. But if you are in the 1000 range, i'd stray toward something new...an older cam on ebay gives me the heebie jeebies. I just read up on the Panasonic GS400 3 ccd cam for 1299 for another post on the board and its pretty impressive for the dollar amount. And...its new, in a box, with a warranty Big Grin can't beat that, all the dings would be YOUR dings! What is your upper limit budget for this?

Eh...I don't really know. Enough I guess whatever it takes to get a new camera. Sicne GL1 is a good cheap camera now, I guess that's what I want.

Im filming my movie The Businessman with a GL1 they are cheap cameras but they allow you to shoot in movie mode which gives you a cinematic look that makes it seem a lot higher production value then it really is so you are definately getting your money's worth with this little puppy!

I think an extra $300 is probably worth it for a slightly lesser, but brand new camera with full warranty etc. The GS400 will be fine for what you want, probably no different from the GL1. But in 2 years time when you want something better, provided you've taken care of it you could probably sell it on Ebay for $1000 to put toward your next camera (plus whatever you've saved). It's a bit like buying a car really, resale value is an important consideration when you're trying to work your way up.

i wouldn't ever buy another camera on Ebay. I bought one that all that was wrong was a battery issue. My friend (who lacks braincells) bought one that was all sorts of broken. Buy a new, or even refurb camera and save yourself a headache.

I used a GL1 back in highschool, and I didn't appreciate it. Probably because it was my first digital camera, and I was young. I think it was about 6 years ago now... wow. Memories.

But, had I a GL1 now, I would love it as if I birthed it. I look back at some of my work back then and the picture quality compensates from my then lack of skill, lol

I think a GL1 for that price is awesome! But you could also say that one mans trash is another mans... gold? I have no clue what word traditionally goes there.
