I currently use iMovie. I have no money, since I am a freshman in high school. Are there any free movie editing programs for macs other than iMovie?

Honestly, not that I know of. You could try downloading demos of other programs, but I don't know too much about that. I know every once in a while iMovie comes out with a free bundle of extra effects/filters/etc. that can be useful sometimes.

if you're on a PC, theres a decent amount. on a mac, since it's fairly proprietary, you're **** outta luck I guess.

Huh. i can't believe no one said this already. Avid currently makes a free editing program for mac called Avid Free DV. It doesn't look that cool but it is your basic video and audio editing software and comes with two streams of real-time effects. Avid Free DV

Good luck!

avid free dv is worse than imovie/windows movie maker i think. shell out a few bucks and get something decent.

Avid Free DV is the only free video editing software.

iMovie HD will be your best bet when compared to other free offerings. It really is superior to any other free editing opportunity on the market.

As for saving up for your next move... Final Cut Express HD is a terrific place to start [particularly considering its educational price]. You're already off in the right direction by having a Mac instead of a PC for post production. Stick with iMovie for now and upgrade to FCE or FCP when you can afford it.
