What camera would you buy for $2000.00 or less.

I'm looking to get a DV camera but I don't really have much experience with them.

Any suggestions?

The GL2 seems to be the staple of student filmmaking. I had one for a year and loved it. Really produced some great images. There is some worry as to the "remove the casstte" error that seems to occur more frequently than is reasonable, but it doesn't seem to be occuring with newer units. If that doesn't suit your needs the VX2100 is also a decent sub-$2k camera from what I hear.

I Was just in the same position you are. I looked around and ended up going with the panasonic Ag Dvc-30. I went with this because i had used my schools gl2 over my summer break. It had the "remove tape" thing going on. So i went with the panasonic. The only problem i was having was that the built in audio sucked really bad. Although i use a external audio source i still thought for $2000 the audio should be somewhat decent. Anyway, i would go with a Gl2 or a vx2100. But whatever you go with i would read "user" reviews first because the specs provided by some sites arn't always right.

I have hands-on experience with the VX2100 and the GL2. The GL2 is certainly capable of better images. The lens is superior, and Canon CCDs give more natural color balance than Sony straight out of the box.

Also, the VX has no provision for a pseudo-progressive mode.

The VX is also a few hundred dollars more expensive. Slightly better built, but the GL2 will make your projects look better.

I have a GL2, although I haven't used it for recording any original images (just film transfers, playback, and audio) for a year and a half - since I started using real film.
