Take your time and make sure to prepare for it. Most of the problem with first time films are things like lighting and sound. So research and know what your doing before jumping right into it. It will make all the difference and the better your first film the bigger the rush and motivation you get.

My advice is to carefully plan EVERTHING. Storyboards, call sheets, rental times, work hours, everything should be planned out in pre-production if you want to stay on budget and on schedual. Good luck on it.

Plan, plan, preplan and plan some more. That is correct ! And take some time to organize preproduction meetings with your cast and crew. Find a large room and read the screenplay out loud or at least some key scenes.
I don`t know what you think, but I found that helpfull.
