At Office Depot I found this neat desklamp that folds in half. It's a halogen light, and when you open it, it lights up (duh). HOWEVER, the best part is that the light lasts almost forever, and shows up white from about 3 feet away, and blueish from about a foot away.
The white is good as a keylight, even though the lamp is only about a foot tall, AND you can set it up on a desk or something, so you don't really need any extra time devoted to setting it up. You just plant it and walla - great looking light.
If you set the lamp closer, you get a bluish tone, which is good if you want a cooler look, or you want your light to stand out more. On my TRV950, I crank the white balance all the way down and set the brightness to indoor, and I can make a sunlight orange room look more calm and cool.
Most dialogue takes place at a table or something of that sort, so you can always put the light right next to your actors, and not worry about holding a sun gun, or having a giant tripod-mounted stage light.
This is cheap and simple, and I'm not saying that it is BETTER than a tripod stage light; but the results are similar in many places - and in some cases I prefer it.
But I've rambled enough; just thought a few of you might be interested
