Does anyone know where to find a fisheye lens (preferably of .42x or higher distortion) that will fit a 72mm thread? The closest thing I can find is a .5x wide angle on ebay. This would be for a Panasonic AG-DVX100a or for an add-on to a Canon XL1s.

Thanks.

umm, I think I remember running across a tutorial on how to make a 72mm .3x or so wide angle lens for about a hundred bucks using a 67mm wide angle lens and an adapter ring. If this interests you, I could probably find it again, but I'd just be googling.

Joren, if you happen to run across that, or if you recall where you saw it, it would help out a lot. I tried a little googling for something like that, and couldn't find much.

By the way, do you know why 72mm add-on lenses are near impossible to find?

Here ya go!

I just googled, ' 72mm fisheye adapter ' without quotes and it was on the second page. I'm not sure the quality will be wonderful, but for around a hundred bucks, it can't be bad. Oh and he said it works on a dvx100, but it may not work on all cameras. You'd have to roll the dice.

Thanks a bunch, Joren. The frame captures with that modified lens look surprisingly good. I think I'll actually try to follow those instructions.

And I must admit, I don't even know what "google" is.

Did that guy on that website actually write 10 pages of whining and complaining about how nobody would listen to him about widescreen cropping just to tell us to shrink our footage into the safe area?

I started reading his notes, but after a couple missed jokes, I skipped it and just looked at the pictures.

Hey-oh! Just wanted to say thanks again, Joren, for the link. I ended up just cracking the lens apart and using puddy to hold the removed glass onto my camera. It worked.

Here are some screen grabs with the fisheye, if you're interested:

These were all shot with a Panasonic AG-DVX100a, by the way. They're grabs from something I shot over the holidays, called Rex Wilco.

Thanks again, Joren! That site helped immeasurably.

Looks good (but a hair on the soft side). I also tape filters and lens adapters on. It doesn't look as good as a matte box or real lens adapter, but who cares. Pros tape filters on all the time.

Great costumes, BTW. Really sells the look.

Funny thing, Ben -- as soon as Andrew (who plays the lead, Rex Wilco) suited up, Ace Ramano jumped into my head, and I smacked myself. As it turned out in the end, though, the characters are quite different. Rex Wilco wears a beige shirt, for instance.

In all fairness, I wrote this script about a year ago, probably before you were even born.
