Ugh. I think youv made a good chi=oice in camera but niot in seller. B&H is notorious for being a pain in the ass. I bought mine through Beach Camera (a subsideary of buydig.com) for under $3,000. I decided on them by going to www.pricegrabbers.com and runing a search for the DVX100. Not only do they list the chaeapest prices but also have reviews by customers so you can see which are the real scams. Eithere way buyer beware. Good luck. R. I buy from B&H all the time. There's nothing wrong with them. Also check out www.bwayphoto.com....it's supposedly grey market but the prices are great. I order from them all the time, so no worries. _________________________ http://www.jswfilms.com/

B&H being a pain in the ass? ive ordered everything from them. and everyone i know orders through them. they may not have the lowest prices in town, but their prices are still reasonable, and they are EXTREMELY reliable. never had a problem with them. biggest and best retailer out there. as for broadway photo (bwayphoto.com mentioned above) steer clear of them. some people may have had good luck with them, but others dont. i had a friend purchase a camera for cheap through, but it was lacking a box, manuals, and appeared quite used. if you go to epinions.com you can see that several people have had broken equipment sent to them. look up b&h on epinions and you will see a pretty spotless reputation.
by the way, the ag-dvx is indeed the best choice. the xl-1s, despite its hype and popularity, is definitely becoming aged... right out of the box, the quality is equal to that of the GL-2, with some minor color differences that, for some, might actually steer you towards the GL-2 instead of the XL-1S. the ag-dvx100 is a fine camera. the quality is stunning. trust me, at first i was wondering if the 24p was worth it, but i cant tell you enough how much it is. especially for projection or even just playback on an HDTV, the progressive mode just lets that camera shine compared to cameras with comparable resolutoin that shoot in 60i. (or the faux-30p on my gl2)

It is has ben my understanding that B&H is fine unless there is a problem and you need customer service. Supposedly they are almost impossible to get ahold of. quote: Wretched customer service. Have used twice before but will NEVER use again. They were fine when shipping went without a hitch the first 2 times, but this time there was a problem (their fault) and they basically told me to go jump in a lake. BEWARE.
When was shoping around I called their customer service line twice to see how long I would be on hold( I did this with all potential sellers) For B&H I was holding for 45 minute both times before I hung up. Beach camera was 6 and 7 minutes. Also there is an issue with B&H and Jewish Holidays. The owners are apparently Jewish which is fine and good but they shut down for the holidays as it is against their religious beliefs. I can dig it, oh except they take orders and charge credit cards anyway, despite being "closed". So its a sin to ship it, but not to have people take oorders and have money exchange hands? This comes from several reviews on sites like Pricegrabbers.com example. quote: I just placed my order for two camera cases. I've received my invoice and order confirmation and also a note: "Due to our holiday closing, all orders submitted from Friday Oct 10 through Sunday Oct 19 will be shipped after we reopen". Sheesh! If their store is closed for a week and a half they shouldn't be accepting orders like they are open. I'm dissapointed. My order is stuck now. And the store is closed. If I would have known that, I wouldn't have placed my order with them
Now there are plenty worse out there and they do seem to ship new stuff in the box (which is more than can be said for most) but I didnt like the press I had heard so I looked around and found another that met my needs both in price and in customer service. hmm... ive had a completely different experience... ordered my gl-2 through them, no problem. my colleague drew bought his ag-dvx through there, also no problems. but before buying the ag-dvx he bought a xl-1s, decided he want to send it back, no questions asked. another friend of mine ended up with a faulty gl-2, they werent hard to get ahold of, sent it right back.
i'm not denying the existance of bad experiences from them. but i do believe that, on the whole, b&h is still probably the finest and/or most reliable dealer you will come across.

Hmmm, i bought tons of stuff through B&H, and everything has always been fine, but I've never had to deal with customer service before. Me and a friend bought our dvx's from buydig.com and they had lower price prices than B&H (but not TOO low) They shipped really fast (like 3 days) and we had the cheapest shipping. Oh and just for fun I'll post the store front picture of Broadway Photo: You might as well buy from Buy Rite, at least they have a sign: -- Clyde www.partypooperfilms.com

If you live in NY, you should buy from a shop outside of NY cuz then you won't have to pay sales tax, which is pretty hefty when you get a $3,000 camera. -- Clyde www.partypooperfilms.com
