I'm in the UK, and spend a lot of my time writing scripts (some original, some fanfic). I've finally decided to bite the bullet and actually film one with some guys from my uni's drama department, but being a poor student I have very little money.

I've found a camera from Canon, the MV630i for £500 (about $800 I think) which looks pretty cool, but have no idea about what's a good price for a camera of this quality. If anyone has this camera, or knows of a better one for this price could you let me know?

Thanks

Well have u looked into the camera?
Checked out what Format it is (mini dv, h8 etc)?
What features it has , resolution, xlr etc.

Think about what u need the camera for, and what kind of investment it will be for you.

Find out as much as u can about that camera first, do some research on it. That is the best way to find out something about a camera. Read reviews on it etc, and find other camera's in that price range.

If you don't look I'll force you to _=_

I'm in the UK too and the first piece of advice is ... AVOID Jessops! They are horribly expensive compared to other places you could buy.

Try the Canon shop section in www.dabs.com for a start. The canon website should have links to other UK retailers, but dabs is the only one that springs to mind right now.

Since you live in Europe, you could get the mx-500 from panasonic. It's 3ccds, and has a higher resolution than most cameras twice its price. It goes for like under $1200. I want to get one, but it's PAL so I'd have to get the mx-5000 from japan. On another note the panasonic dv-953 is almost the exact same, availible here in the u.s.
