a good camera body is essential, and i have heard some bad things about the russian 16mm that would hinder me from buying it.

but most importantly, your picture quality will be deteremined not by the body but by the lenses. be sure that your lenses are in good condition, because those are what will make or break your film.

also, i have heard that the camera is noisy, so forget shooting sync sound, unless you muffled the body, somehow. as far as i know, russian make tough, durable, cameras but they do not compare to the Arriflex or even the Swiss H 16 Bolex, which is another wind-up camera.

research the manufacturer, what types of lenses it has and their condition, and be picky, unless of course you want to throw away $200 just for the sole purpose of having your own 16mm camera.

But all I can say is . . . buyer beware!

You couldn't shoot sync anyway..It's a wind up...not a crystal sync. For silents or dubbing later it's an ok camera. You can never go wrong with arris though...I suggest a arris bl with crystal sync and video tap, about 3 to 5 grand. Real nice 16 mm.
