I was wondering if any of you have experimented with plugging a mic into an MP3 recorder and experimenting that way. If so, what type of recorder did you use and what kind of mic?

I'm getting tired of the mic on the camera getting sounds I don't want it to.

Maybe it was in a dream, but I swear I've seen little hand held devices that record directly to MP3.

Kind of like what psychologists and writers use to make verbal notes with.

Im not sure you could find an MP3 recorder that would be compatible with the XLR mic input.

EDIT: I did some searching on eBay and found a few decent MP3 recorders with the XLR input for $270. I dont know how that fits in your price range?

I know his firewire jack completely stopped functioning. (by the way, did you end up getting that fixed?)

no its not fixed, the warranty ran out :-P

I want to get the mic away from the camera so I stop getting the camera WHIR sound in the background. Its not bad with the GL2, but I would still like to eliminate it.
