you don't really need a car to make it sound like a car, just like you don't need a real hose blowing up, just record it yourself and be creative.
for example, we needed the sound of a hubcap flying off the car and bouncing down the road, so we got a soda can, poured out the contents, squashed it flat, tied a rope to the little pull tab, and bounced it against a fire extinguisher (we tried it on the desk first, then the door, then the tile in the bathroom, it turns out a full fire extinguisher actually sounds a lot like a hubcap hitting the road, so that's the noise we ended up using), and it worked, no one even questioned it when we reviewed it in class
(this was for a sound class, so people were really paying attention to the sound)
