Hmm, My production group LBMG, has been looking to purchase a nicer camera for some time now. ZR's & GL's just can't cut it when it comes to the crisp quality and "life" that nicer cameras seem to bring to the scene.

Lighting has worked well for us, but the poor camera quality ecspecially outdoors is hurting so we had looked at buying the DVX-100 a few months back. I had originally thought the list Price Was $3,000 or so at most retail outlets, but now BHPhoto shows $3,995.00 and the DVX-100A.

What happened to the original DVX? Anyone know where I can purchase one and what an Expected Price should be?

If that doesnt work, any suggestions on good cameras around $2,400?

as reputable BHphoto is, they are a ****ing rip off. You can get the dvx100a for 3449.95 at www.evsonline.com and they are very legit, I order from them all the time.

Its probably worth noting that NAB is right around the corner, and being that both JVC and Panasonic have announced some serious new 24p HD offerings, we may see some price drops in 24p SD cameras (i.e. the XL2 and DVX) post NAB.

Also, since you put the ZR series and the GL's in the same category, i am assuming the crisp quality and life you refer to is probably from 24p cams, the GL is quite a good 3CCD despite the smaller lens, disregarding 24p. Am I correct? Is 24p what you are looking for? If thats the case, then the only cam in the price range you are looking is the DVX-100A. the dvx-100 was replaced by the 100a, just like you cant buy a GL1 anymore. So thats out. I use a DVX but if the price drops into your range on the XL2 i would go there if you could, theres enough features to make the price difference worthwhile. Also - no announcement but the GL2 is due for a replacement. NAB could yield a 24p GL3 for all we know. SO whatever you do...it wont hurt to wait until after NAB.

Yah, the GL is fine for what we currently are doing, but we figure if we are going to drop $1,000+ on a camera may as well be a great one that can last us 2-Years+
