Well, just to clarify (and I think you know this, but for those who dont) The AG-DVX100 is a 3ccd miniDV cam. It dosent record to film. What it does do is shoot true 24fps, which is the standard speed film plays back at, as upposed to 30fps of video.
To answer your question, yes, I think that cam would have deffinently given me a better look, or should I say, a more "film like" motion. I shot on a Canon XL1, which does have a "movie mode" that simulates 24p, but it sometimes stutters when you pan. As a result, My D.P. hates Movie mode, and I decided not to fight him on it.
With the AG-DVX100 there wouldnt have been any disagreement. It looks beautiful, both in motion, and stills. I have to say, there is a good chance my stills would have also looked a little better, as that camera seems to have a greater range of white, to black color ratio.
I could tell you several "success" stories I have heard about this cam, but simply sufice to say, if you have the money, and your serious about shooting the most "film like" DV you can, this is the cam for you.... Now, if I could only figure out how to get one myself... R. Michael
And you shall know us by the trail of dead.
