Well, I wouldnt go as far as to say he uses them. He used them once, on full frontal, and they lookied like "S***" This was intentional. He said, and I quote...
"I wanted the DV footage to look bad, so that when the film parts came on, people would fall in love with film all over again."

Yeah, thanks a heap there Steven, but it aint helpin me, and my "street cred" any over here in perpetual DV land.

I like his films to, but wouldnt hold him up as a Canon poster child. Tell ya what. Compare the footage in "Full Frontal" to the pics below. These are what stuff shot on an XL1, that you actually light, look like.

My GL1 and I are close like brothers. I love my camera and plane on getting a XL1 next. Cannon is a solid camera company in my opinion. Their lenses are nice, their cameras are steady and solid, no tinky easy to break shiz on them. Also, like the XL1, their cameras come in lots of differnt shapes and sizes, very very cool.

Besides filming, the only other thing I ever did good was filming.

Tizzy, that was a bit harsh...Oh well...I really really really want the XL-1s, but chances of me getting it are about 1 in 1000. AAAH!

I'm 14, have no money, don't have my own camera, and live in a small town with no good actors. PLEASE ADOPT ME!

Go to EBAY...buy a camera. Or just buy a cheaper one after you get a little more money at some place that will give you a warrenty. Then make some thing so I don't have to read that signature anymore...ha ha...just kidding. But really try ebay, I got my camera off there brand new and saved 500 dollars. You'd be shocked as of what you can find on the net. Oh...don't buy from the east coast stores that you see in magazines. Well...if you do, make sure they arn't straight off the boat with only an Asain/Japan Warrenty, sometimes they screw you on that, plus many of those places don't give you a battery or charger.

By the way...my new film "TOBY" is up! Shameless self promotion at its best. And I'm not spell checking this post so deal with it plz.

Besides filming, the only other thing I ever did good was filming.

What happened to your rich uncle?

If he is willing to fork over a few hundred bucks for software, he shouldn't have a problem getting ya a camera! You should have just downloaded FCP for free off Kazaa.. ya i know its bad and everything.. but us poor people have to make do with what we got.
I look at it this way, I say its ok to steal bread from a rich man to feed a poor man's starving family.. so its alright to steal software from a rich company to feed a starving film student!

Not trying to be harsh, and certainly didnt mean to come off that way. But people often say "DV looks like crap" based on films like "Full Frontal" and "Bamboozled". even though these people didnt even attempt to light these DV "films". I know DV can look much better than that. I just dont get it. Why wouldnt you push a format to its limit, instead of settling for its limitations? Ah well, I try harder, fine by me. Just understand you can make better looking movies than that.

I've never used it, but I'd agree it appears to be a little better than the XL-1s out of the box. It has larger CCD's and is compatible with more lenses (Not just proprietary, although 1/2" CCD lenses aren't all that common either). It does have a much nicer interface than a lot of the competition. It's still basically a pro-sumer class camera though. It costs about the same as an XL-1s I think, although it's come down a bit from it's initial price tag. Of course, if you can afford a P+S adapter the XL's are much better (They don't make a 1/2" version for the GY 500).

I've used that camera at school a few times. It's okay I suppose. If you like that gorgeous looking picture type of camera that kicks some arss. LOL, yeah it's way cool! Although, it is very very shaky and you can't use it with out a tripod without it looking like you're on crack.

Besides filming, the only other thing I ever did good was filming.

I think that when nice new shiny cameras like the XL1 turn up, people immediately jump up and go "Now I can be a director!".

Unfortunately, the same people forget (or don't know of) the need for proper lighting, sound recording and the rest of it.

It's not suprising why DV has the rep it does. We know better though.
