I am planning to make a short movie on ping pong and I want to be able to have enough lighting so I can increase the shutter speed (to see the ball move more sharply). The room I'm filming in has a lot of cieling lights (it's in a school) but I'm not sure it's enough. Any suggestions on what type of light(s), or how strong of a light I should use. Thanks.

Your question is very general. The amount of lighting needed depends on a bunch of factors. I'd start by taking your camera (or a meter) into the room and seeing how much more light it needs for your desired shutter speed. Other things that might help to know:

What kind of lighting are you trying to achieve? High key? Low key? Wash? Want backlight/rimlight/eyelighting?

What kind of video lights are available to you? Are you looking to rent/buy? Grip equipment?

What kind of lights are built into the room you're shooting in? How will you balance/control the color of these and the video lights? If they're florescents or mercury, do they flicker?

How big is the room? how tall are the ceilings? How large the acting area?
