I don't know if anyone around here uses one, but it's a very cool camera. The image is not as crisp as that of competing HDV cameras (Canon, JVC, Sony) because of its pixel-shifting CCDs, but if you shoot 1080p and downconvert to 720, the picture will probably look just as good as anything progressive from any HDV. Variable frame rates is another bonus that sets it apart from MiniDV-recording HDVs. About the P2 cards, I think they still only make 4gb versions at this point, which will limit you to four-minute shoots per card at the highest res. From what I've read, it's an amazing camera for this price range, but be sure it's exactly what you need before you make a decision.
What kind of shots do you need for this film (locations, lighting conditions, etc.)? And how will you distribute it when it's complete? You may not really need HD if you'll be putting it on DVD or posting it online.
Good luck.

First, thanks a lot for the fast response! It was very helpfull indeed.
I going to shoot in two places/sets(In europe we call it "decors" - its a french word, i dunno if in america you use the same word):
One INTerior- I want to give a high contrast 2 these images. The action takes place in a low light bunker, in desert "aliens look a like" corridors and in a big elevator.
One EXTerior- Desert beach-I´m going to use just reflectors and a CTB filter.
Iam going to use 3 Fresnel Spots 800 + one kino light, smoke machine and the basic lighting sh*t.
Its for a student project. So the budget is tide.
Sorry for possible errors, iam not english
Cheers !
PS- We are going to use dolly and steady cam also. PS 2- We are going to make dvds so we dont need to shot it in hd, right?

You might just consider the DVX100. Of course, you won't have the in-camera slow-motion and undercranking of the HVX, but it's still a great SD camera; plus, it's smaller and lighter.
This sounds like a very cool movie. I wish I had access to locations like that.
Your English is fine, by the way. Outra vez, bom sorte!

Its just an old air force bunker, its pretty cool. Its a story of 2 guys that are locked in a old bunker since they remember. Its just like saw but without the gore
We use the dvx100 (i love that camera) in my school but we wanted to make a HD version in the PC´s hard drive. What do you think? Any tips to make that HD version portable?
We also wanted to apply to the lisbon village festival. They show the movies in a high format HD screen.

Neat. That sounds like an old episode of The Twilight Zone.
Right now, the only way to get your HD onto a screen is to burn to Blu-Ray or HD-DVD (both of which are still very rare and neither of which have any guarantee of becoming popular soon), do a film transfer or play the video from a hard drive.
What are you using to edit?

In my school we use Avid Hd - The new software. It works fine with normal DV also. Then we export it to adobe after effects to use a very nice program called cinelook. I dunno also if you can work with HD footage in adobe after effects. To tell the truth, I never worked with HD before. I took a one year camera operator course but we only worked with DVC Pro and Betacam and film.
Thanks 4 the help mate.
