I have a question what is used or can be used for diffusion of their lights. I am shooting using reflector lamps with practical light bulbs and halogen work lights. However, the light is to harsh and I want to soften it up a little. What works best and will not start a fire? Also I guess this question could also be asked about gels. Any suggestions at all would be greatly appreciated.

wax paper works well. Try reflecting the light also with foam board.
