im a 15 year old girl and i have a SONY 460X DIGITAL ZOOM CCD-TRV308 NTSC hi8 camcorder and im anxious to get some adobe premiere 6.0 editing software but my problem lies within what other type of equipment do i need to buy in order to capture my film into my computer?? im trying to get an estimated price on all of this because i love film making and i know enough about adobe premiere to get the job done plus it has some awesome features for an intermediate filmmaker to explorer on.

Well, Amanda, the kind of computer that your planning to edit on is what is going to decide the programs and/or hardware you need. Depending on the computer you have, you might already be able to capture footage through an i-link or USB port. If you don't have an i-link or USB connection in your computer, then you need to get a capture card -- you can buy an i-link card to go into your computer so you can capture the footage. If you to to Firewire/i.link/1394 add-on card, you can see that they are pretty affordable. Now, as for Adobe Premiere...this program can range from $300 - $500 depending on where you buy it. You might be able to get a student discount if you have a sibling in college, which could take the price down to $200. I hope that answers your question.

I'm pretty sure a firewire card will do you no good. For a hi-8 or other analog format you'll need an analog capture card. I think they range from about $150-$2,000. I don't know what to recommend, but there are probablly some still around here that use these.

I'm sorry -- I totally misread and thought you had a Digital8 -- not a hi8. Since you have a hi8, NotaMono is right -- the i-link will be of no use to you. There are a lot of good analog capture cards out there that can be fairly cheap. However, you need to be very careful. For example, when I first started editing, I had to get an ATI All In Wonder 128 analog capture card which in itself worked fine -- the only thing was the capture card caused a fault with Premiere -- and I couldn't use the video viewer in the program -- which kind of made Premiere useless. So, you can get a good analog card, but be careful of the card and how it interacts with your system.

Look up some analogue capture cards on E-Bay, because they have some really good deals. I recommend you try and find a Pinnacle AV Capture card of some sort, I know they have atleast 1 model for analogue.

I don't know about a pinnacle card. I have an av card and it's not compatible with adobe premiere. I looked at the site and half the cards made by pinnacle arent compatible with adobe premiere. If you check out the adobe site it gives a list of cards that are compatible
