Well, I was going to buy Panansonic XLR mic, but I heard that it was not worth it.. I do a lot of street interviews...

However, I have these two mic in mind..

1. MKE 300... price was low.. but good high end, but not sure about XLR

2. ME66/K6 I'm sure it is good mic.. but how is it worth to drop $500 attached mic??

once again little help guys...

The ME66 is a terrific mic.

And yes, you're right to get a Sennheiser instead of Panasonic. Sennheiser makes the best mics out there.

Yes, Sennheiser does make the best consumer shotgun mic out there.

How are you using it? When you do street interviews, is it mounted to the camera or do you have a boom operator? For street interviews, I wouldn't mount a shotgun to the camera. You'd get tons of BG noise.

Is it worth it? I don't know because I don't know your production/post production pipeline. What is the quality bottleneck in your setup?

i know it might take a second to string it up their shirts vs. just aiming a shotty at em, but wouldnt that eliminate getting unwanted nat sound?

There are pluses and minuses. Lavs tend to be more dynamcic sounding than shotguns. But they also tend to sound flat, and clothing rustle is a sonuvabîtch. In an ideal setting, I'd lav each person and cue them with a boom, then mix the two in post. I have done it this way before and it sounds great.

Panasonic is not known for making good audio gear so you were pretty right off the bat with not chosing it... now the MKE-300 is a 1/8 inch connector, so id rule that out right away.. (sorry Im an audio guy and that sounds like a toy to me)... the me66 seems to be a fine mike and sennheiser is well established at makinf shotgun mics... Id go with that... My audio field however is post sound... but I still know a toy when I see one....

oh and what did you mean about a lav sounding more dynamic? (this is to the last post)

A good omni lav one foot away recreates the tonal range better (and flatter with much less reverb) than a super cardioid several feet away. But like I said, I think it's best to mix the two.

ok.. I thought you were refereing to dynamic range... which you pretty much want to avoid while capturing location sound. Tonality should however be better with a high quality boom mic than with a lav... Mainly because of the size of the capsule and diaphram... smaller less air moving... though for quick dialogue yer gonna adr later anyways, screw it get a cheap lav, and a good omni directiopnal mic (for abience and room tone) than for post a large diapham condenser (there are coming down in price big time... I just bought a large diaphrram tube mice for $300 CDN)... We use Neumann U87's at work... but that is a proffessianl televsion post house...
