I was wondering if anybody knew where to find something to hoist a camera into the air? I'm not sure what these things are called, but I saw one on the net like 3 years ago for 300 bucks.

Now I can't remember what they are called or what the page I saw it on was. Does anybody have any ideas?

Yes! Exactly. But if I can find it anywhere else than e-bay that would be great.

I found this website...I only glanced over it for about five seconds...but noticed a price number at around $200 and something bucks...better than ebay...I also found other links for jib arms...but they are actuall "HOLLYWOOD BIG ACTION" jib arms...prices up to 3,000...which I'm sure you can't afford...since I can't. Wink

Thanks Kyle, you're the greatest!

And one more thing, is there any way to do the following with one of those Jib Arms?

As the camera is lifted higher up, could it point more towards the ground? Or does the camera always have to stay in the same position?

I really have no clue...but I'm sure it probabvly works just like a tripod...where it can SWIVEL and look UP and DOWN....or so called PANNING. Either way...it looks like a pretty good deal...and if you didn't look on the rest of that webpage....do so. A few good items including camera shoulder things....heh...where you can set the camera on your shoulder.

Also a nice goodie...the little screen for the jib arm to see what the camera is recording...that's pretty nifty. I'm gonna have to get myself a jibarm.

And also...

Did you watch the demo videos? Holy sh** they look sweet...I'm DEFINETELY getting one of these bad boys, Jib arm. One Demo has the camera DROP down over a small creek...damn it looks soooooooo sweet. And it's smooth and doesn't shake a lot. It's gotta be worth the money.

Yeah I remember watching them a long time ago, and then when I watched them when you gave me the link, I knew it was the same web page as before. Those clips look sooooo nice and smooth.

You know those Christian Children's Fund commercials? I know the guy who films all those, and he says those Jib Arms are a lot harder to operate than they look. He says it takes a lot of practice. But I'd be willing to practice for days if it meant getting a shot like that!

To answer my own question, I think you can change the direction of where the camera is pointing while moving it up and down, because they did it in the demo videos. And I definitely want to buy an LCD screen for that thing, too, so I can see what my shots look like.

Jeez, I'm gonna end up spending all my camera money on equipment!

always practice around with new ideas and equipment...one thing I've learned is to shoot the same scene multiple times from different angles...I've gotta start doing this because sometimes the shot might look really sh****...and the jib arm thing...experiment with that...just go in your backyard and film some trees....or a cat. I gotta start experimenting with lighting...I've never done ANY lighting before...and one of my next films is gonna take place at night around a pool...a big shootout...and I'm gonna need some good lighting otherwise it'll look like sh**. One these days I'm just gonna set up some lights and start filming different anlgles at like nine at night to see how they come out. Practice makes perfect.

I have attempted lighting before, but I don't know how to REALLY do it...I need to take some online tutorials or something.
