Audio Technica's cheap model mics are terrible, but high ends are good.

For under a hundred, I would probably suggest going with an Azden ECZ-990. If you're willing to spend $120, you could get an SGM-X, or $150, for the SGM-1X.

Anything from Azden is generally acceptable, although there are several other companies out there that are preferred.

If you decide to get a good expensive mic like an Azden SGM-1X. Make sure your camcorder has an XLR audio connection.

Or an XLR adaptor box, like the XLR Pro, or Beachtek or whatever, though I hear quite a few complaints about the latter.

I got a $60 Audio Technica ATR-55 on my ZR camera. Works really well. Of course, that's in comparison built-in to the ZR microphone, so that's not saying much.

But seriously, I've had no problems with the Audio Technica product
