I've been looking at a lot of cameras and I'm not quite sure which one to buy. I've looked at the XL1 and DVX100a and they're pretty much at the top of how much I'm willing to spend (used though, which I'm kind of uneasy about)

I'm thinking about maybe buying a Gl1 or GL2. Can someone please give me the pros and cons of these cameras, or a comparative to the XL1? Any suggestions would also be appreciated. Thanks.

Hey,

The XL-1s is a good camera, although Autofocus is a bit sluggish. Im not sure about buying a used one because i cant think of a reson to sell one unless it was broken or you just dident want it anymore. The GL-1 and GL-2 are also excellent cameras they are essentialy the same as the XL-1s except less manual features and directed more to the advanced consumer. I cant say much about the DVX100a as i have never used one before but as far as my experence goes, if your willing to put the money out for an XL-1s or a GL-1 or GL-2 i would say go for it, you souldent be disappointed.

If by XL-1 you ment the first generation and not the second XL-1s then you might want to reconsiter because the original XL-1 had a lot of problems as far as im conserned.

hope i was help,

mike

I have a GL2 and it is awesome. There's never any problems with it or anything. And the quality is just as good as XL1s, especially since I color correct everything anyway. The XL1S has interchangable lens, yes, but I don't have the money to buy thousand dollar lenses, so that option doesn't really help me. I bought my GL2 from www.1888camcorder.com for cheaper than usual. You can trust the site. It shipped it to me very quickly and it was all very easy. Don't buy it off Amazon marketplace or anything. Way too much of a hassle. You could buy it off the regular amazon.com site, but it's more expensive than oon 1888camcorder.com.

So, my conclusion: go with the GL2. you'll love it.

I've used a GL1 and a DVX100a and let me just say, I thought the GL1 was awesome when I got it, it had great manual features and had an excellent design, but as sson as I got my hands on a DVX100a, I could never go back. The color rendention and resolution is far more superior than most other cameras (in the prosumer price range). If you are very serious about film making, save your money and get a DVX like I did. It's worth it.

A DVX has better color depth than a GL1, and is definitely more vibrant.

It's a bit smaller than XL1 as well, in case you need to get into tight spots.
