I'm currently a freshmen in highschool and the school year is almost over. Up to this point I have just been using a decent home video camera and iMovie for my movies. I have decided that this summer would be a good opportunity to make some movies and to learn how to use to better equipment.I don't have a whole lot of money to spend but for the last few years I've been saving about $3000 and I think my parents may be willing to pitch in a small amount. I've already decided I will probably be getting final cut pro for editing. For video I found Panasonic AG-DVX100B at http://www.bestpricecameras.com/prodetails.aspx?prodid=352090 for what seems like a price I could affored. I was wondering what decent cameras for a relatively low price you would suggest. Keep in mind I know almost nothing about these cameras as I said I want to use the summer to learn. Any help would be appreciated.

Absolutely do not buy from the above link. It is a sure scam. That camera should be over 2000 bucks, not 899, so you can be sure you're not getting the real thing. Check out www.bhphotovideo.com, for realistically good prices. They are by far the leading online retailer for cameras, so you know you aren't getting scammed or cheated.

thanks. I was thinking it might because I saw the same camera for about twice the price but I was hopeful.

If you want the DVX, which is a great choice and will make an excellent camera for a couple years - buy used. You can buy a good used one from the marketplace on DVXuser.com - they're usually always selling, because the people there are upgrading to HD. The retail price for a DVX is $2500, with goodies. You can probably get a used one with some goodies, for around $2000.

Try getting a student discount off of Final Cut Pro (are you going to be just getting Final Cut, or Studio 1/2?). Both are fine, and will serve your purpose, but Studio 2 is much more in-depth with more programs to do different things.

If you don't need to upgrade your computer to run Final Cut, then with that budget in mind, you should be fine.

I'll look into that site. I'm not sure if I would get FInal Cut studio 2 or just final cut pro. I'm leaning toward the studio because if I'm going to make an investment I might as well get the whole package for a little more.

AHHHHH nobody listens to me!!!! Don't shop at bestpricecameras.com they will screw you over big time. They added an extra 2,000 dollars to my bill and there is nothing I can do about it.

You can't buy just Final Cut Pro, you have to buy it as Studio now. Studio 2 is amazing, get it if you can because its an incredible piece of software for the price. But don't get it unless you have the hardware to back it up.

Good luck.
