Anyone know of any sites that offer free stock footage for commercial/personal use? Mainly, I am interested in historical stock footage, but I am also just looking for footage libraries in general. And the free-erer, the better.

i wish i did. they're all devlishly expensive.

iStockPhoto.com is INCREDIBLE for photos though, never more than $1.50 an image. but you probably don't need photos.

thanks for the help titan. Yeah, as far as photos go, google is invaluable for that. And as far as I can tell, most of the photos for WWII should be public domain, since they are over 50 years old. Isn't that the "rule?"

As for video...I have found a couple sources for WWII stock footage, but the only problem is that it is edited into those old propaghanda films (i.e. "Why we fight"). I know that since it is just stock, I can re-edit it, lose their vo's and "dramatized video", and add my own touches to it. But something about that just bothers me. Plus, the mpeg quality isn't the best. Oh well...

yeah - google is good if you don't need liscensing - or print quality.

hmm... 50 year old photo... i'm pretty sure it's not public domain. but i don't know for sure. i bet the website it's on wouldn't mind giving you permission if you just fire off an email though.
