Is Canon ZR60 miniDV any good? They're on sale at apple.com. I'm thinking about getting one but I don't know anything about it. Any advice?

it's essentially the same as the zr40 which i have. sometimes it can produce FANTASTIC results in really good light. in low light situations it's very grainy. you may find it's lack of real manual focus and exposure controls to be a tad irritating. in low light it seems to take the focus control away and set it back to auto and the exposure is impossible to lock even when auto is turned off.

decent camera all together though.

have a look at the gallery from my movie for an idea of the quality. note, slight PS work and downsampleing in some of the pictures.

don't look at gallery 1 for quality, i didn't save those right and they look liike crap.

I looked at those pics and they look really good. For a camera in that price range, it doesn't seem too bad at all. Did you shoot your entire film with that camera? I'm still waiting for the trailer to download. Stupid dial-up. By the way, its price went down to 359 from 399. Is that pretty cheap? I checked out prices on ebay and they're mostly around 400.

I'm not a fan of Canon. They make great lenses but it comes to cameras they just suck.

A Sony would give you way more bang for your buck.

Hey that'd be great! From what I could see the pics looked very good but since I have dial-up they come out somewhat blurry. Here's the link to the camera, by the way.

ok, go here for a directory full of UNMODIFIED shots directly from my zr40: http://www.stirlingmovie.com/zr40/

now, i just remembered being told by the camera guy at best buy that the new ZRs are worse, cheaper build, les durable, etc, than the old zr-45 and lower. don't know if thats true or not. i'm not exactly reccomending this camera either... i'm just telling you what i know and hoping you make the best descision for you.

oh, btw, being on dialup dosn't actually make the quality of the pictures any difrent Wink just makes them take longer to appear.

Well, the one I use is probably a little out of your price range if you're looking at a Canon ZR60. Wink

Sony makes a lot of inexpensive DV cameras. I'd look around their site or maybe B&H or something.

Thanks for the pics. I like the quality. It's not bad for the price range. And you're right it's not dialup that screws up the pics, it's AOHELL. Anyway, I've been looking at some prices and I think the mark down isn't all that great. I might actually get something much better for couple of hundred dollars more.

I like my ZR-45 and got it for $600. You get what your pay for, but from looking at the ZR60 its a dumbed down version of the ZR-40's, its more "squat" and more consumer orientaded then ever. But for $360 or so you cant go wrong Smile
