wow, i don't know either but it sure looks cool. i'm kinda suspicious though...i'd have to see it to believe it. it looks like and is about the same price as my pd150....consumer hd? pretty damn sweet.
time to upgrade my computer.

i saw that in Popular Science. had me speechless for a moment.
the thing i'm slightly skeptical about is the fact that it apparently managed to fit 1 hour of HD on a mini-dv video tape. and the site says it uses MPEG2 which would not be cool, as MPEG is lossy and hard to edit.

Also has no XLR inputs. So no professional sound capabilities without those lousy adapters. Still, the image will look pretty damn sharp. As far as editing, there is a plug in that allows you to convert the mpeg to quicktime so you can edit in Final Cut Pro. Then I guess you could import the whole thing into After Effects and run it through Magic Bullet. But remember, the true quality comes from the movie making team. The writer, the director, the talent and the editor (and various others that are just as vital in their capabilities).
Still, what I wouldn't give for a Panasonic HiDef
"And thus I clothe my naked villany With odd old ends stol'n out of holy writ, And seem a saint, when most I play the devil."
Didn't someone make a thread about this camera? The new issue of Digital Video has it on the cover and a feature article inside.
People should be careful about consumer versions of anything. Think about it like this: you can get all sorts of options for your sports car to make it go faster and faster, but it'd still be pretty foolish to take that same sports car and try to race it against specification built racecars.
They're nice toys/options, but are they really necessary? How many people besides you are really going to care if it's HD or not? Or once you get enough money to get an HD camera, are you going to have enough money for everything else a movie needs? Better yet, are you going to have a good enough story?

People may not care if it's HD, but no matter how you slice it, it's higher quality.
And I mostly make documentaries. It's perfect for me.

honestly, after seeing my mini-dv blown up and projected at a cinema i never want to touch a mini-dv camera again. admittedly, that was shot on a ZR-40, so there are middle grounds between that and HD...
