Hey PanTheMan,

Try Detonation Films. You can get rain there in Full DV Quality in front of black, so you can just key that out. Also, they have real muzzle flashes and stock footage of explosions.

Use a long pipe (plastic) and install a few regualr sprinklers...seal off the end on one side of the pipe and install another end, a piece that can fit a graden hose (the end that you screw into). Make sure you use that blue glue stuff plumbers use. let the whole thing dry off for a day and turn it on!....INSTAN RAIN!!!!

Mkae sure you back light AND front light the rain. Other wise the water drops won's show up. The water drops need to reflect something to be seen.

If I were you, I'd stay away from adding "rain" in post production. It usually doesn't turn out good because of the numerous real life details attributed to rain that you (with the budget) can't fake. Do it in production.

and, if you go with fake rain, either from a pipe or cg, for the love of all that is good, make sure its a grey day Smile

filming in real rain sucks anyway, so i'd go with the pipe.

Another thing to note...If you do go for the "sprinkler effect" make sure the pipe has enough water pressure to activate the sprinklers....if you use two sprinklers then one is enough....lets say you go for 3 or 4 then use two hoses....just add another end to insert a hose (make sure its on the same side!)

ex......... 9-0-0-0-I
9 : an end
- : a foot of pipe
I : the hose ends (The top of the "I" has one hose, the bottom has another)
0 : A sprinkler

good luck with your film!

In Florida it rains while the sun is still shining. No joke.

If you have a mac MOTION has some pretty cool rain effects, if you played with it enough and lit the scene right i think you could get away with using that. My favorite rain ever looked and WAS fake but it was awesome in 28 days later... i loved those big rain drops. So I think if you do it right fake rain just might work.
